Proposal The subculture I chose to research and work with is Kappa Delta Sorority on Georgia Southerns campus.

There are a few reasons why I chose to work with this specific group, mainly because I am a member of the sorority. Kappa Delta is a specific group of girls that are involved in different events and help support the same philanthropy. I, myself, am an insider of Kappa Delta. I also currently live with two other Kappa Deltas who help give me more of an inside look on the subculture. There are many sites that I am going to use to help my observations about Kappa Delta. The Kappa Delta house will be the number one site where I will observe. Many girls of Kappa Delta live at the KD house and it is also a popular meeting site for other girls in Kappa Delta. Other sites that I can use for my observations are going around campus to find girls and ask or observe anything they might be doing. Another site that I thought would benefit me greatly is observing in the dorms to see how Kappa Deltas act in a more comfortable environment, especially since a lot of them may live there. When I go to different events for Kappa Delta, I can observe different behaviors and actions that are done during the event, such as Buckle Up For Safety, which is an event promoted by Kappa Delta. All of these locations can be very beneficial to me with my observations and research so I can see how there are different behaviors in different environments. Although I am a member of Kappa Delta, I am still interested in specific themes that may be present within the sorority, which I may have never noticed before. Some main questions that I intend to ask different girls are: -What other clubs/activities are girls interested in on campus, other than Kappa Delta? -Specifically, what are girls favorite things about Kappa Delta?

-What have girls within Kappa Delta gained from being a member? -Do girls plan to continue philanthropies and rituals even when they are out of Kappa Delta? These questions might give me a better understanding of the diversity of the girls in the sorority, even though it may seem like they would all be interested in the same activities. There are a few secondary sources that I plan to consult so that I may have more opinions other than my own within the research of Kappa Delta. Kappa Delta has their own magazine called the Angelos; this magazine includes information and current events going on with different Kappa Delta chapters across the country. Reading the magazine can give me a better insight of what other chapters are like other than our chapter here at Georgia Southern. Through reading the magazine I can compare and contrast the similarities and differences between chapters and include the information in my research and observations. I am also going to look at what outsiders think of Kappa Delta and see if it reflects what Kappa Delta really is. This will help me see all of the stereotypes that outsiders may think of Kappa Delta. Some stereotypes that I personally have heard of about Kappa Delta are that they are more stuck-up as well as partiers. From my own experience of Kappa Delta I know that both of these assumptions are not true; and after interviewing different girls I hope I can give my audience a new outlook on these stereotypes. I have many options about who I am going to interview for my research questions. First, I am going to interview my roommates and different girls in my pledge class (girls who joined Kappa Delta at the same time), this will help me have a better understanding of how the girls are like, who are in the same age group as I am. I am also going to interview girls who live in

the Kappa Delta house, along with the president of the sorority. I am hoping to get a diverse feedback with everyone I interview so I can show an overall diversity in the sorority. Presently, I know that there are many diverse girls in Kappa Delta, but with my observations and research I plan to help illustrate to myself and the audience, specifically, how diverse the sorority is and how they are not all the same. I hope to get rid of the stereotypes an outsider might currently think of Kappa Delta. My main goal is to show the audiences that from an outside view all girls may act and look the same, but from an inside view the girls are different in many ways. I would also like to show what hard work is put into keeping Kappa Delta a thriving chapter and also the many activities that are done for charity and for community service.
