SMART Library Survey Lesson Plan

Brianna Morgan 4/18/12 End of the Year Library Survey Grade Level: 7th grade Length of Lesson: 15 Minutes Purpose: The purpose of this lesson is to expose students to SMART technology and give them the opportunity to learn how to use the interactive clickers to participate in an end of the year survey and give us their feedback to help improve the library. Learning Outcomes: students will: a) Know how to use the SMART clickers to respond to survey questions. b) Have a basic knowledge of the different types of genres within the library. Illinois Learning Standard(s) Addressed: GOAL 1: Read with understanding and fluency 1.B.3c-Continuously check and clarify for understanding (e.g., in addition to previous skills, draw comparisons to other readings). 1.C.3c Compare, contrast and evaluate ideas and information from various sources and genres. GOAL 3: Write to communicate for a variety of purposes 3.C.3b Using available technology, produce compositions and multimedia works for specified audiences. Common Core Standard(s) Addressed: W.7.6- Using technology, including the internet, to produce and publish writing as well as interact and collaborate with others. Standard(s) for 21st Century Learner: Skill 1#- Inquire, Think Critically, Gain Knowledge 1.2 Dispositions in Action 1.2.2 Demonstrate confidence and self-direction by making independent choices in the selection of resources and information. 1.3 Responsibilities 1.3.4 Contribute to the exchange ideas within the learning community. Skill #2 - Draw conclusions, make informed decisions, apply knowledge to new situations, and create new knowledge. 2.4 Self Assessment Strategies 2.4.1 Determine how to act on information (accept, reject, modify).

Skill #4- Persue personal and Aesthetic Growth Skills 4.1.1-Read, view, and listen for pleasure and personal growth Responsibilities 4.3.1-Participate in the social exchange of ideas both electronically and in person . 4.4.1-Identify own areas of interest Materials: Needed by staff: Copy of survey questions Projector/Computer Copy of SMART presentation Instructional Procedures: Focusing Event: Welcome students. Explain activity and the purpose of the survey. Input from you: Explain that the survey will be done individually and electronically using the SMART clickers. Guided Practice: The teacher will show students how to use the SMART clickers to complete the survey. Students will learn how to turn the clickers on, how to answer the questions, and submit the answers on the computer when the survey is complete. We will discuss various questions about genres or other topics in the survey that the students may have. Closure: Students will submit answers electronically and exit survey properly

Needed by students: Copy of survey questions SMART clickers

Check for understanding: Teacher will be able to look at end of survey results to ensure that all students of completed the survey. Teacher will also be able to look at overall survey results and compare results. Whats Next: New lesson on different topic.
