Install Guide for Z3 K-Swap Shifter

This product may not be legal for highway use. Hybrid Racing is not responsible for any direct or indirect, actual or incidental expense attributed to the use of any performance parts sold by Hybrid Racing LLC. Important!! Please read the entire install guide twice before starting your installation. No, really its a good idea to read it twice before you begin so everything goes smooth ;)

Install Guide
STEP 1: Using a 3mm allen wrench remove the (4) M4 bolts securing the aluminum dust cover to the shifter assembly.

STEP 2: Insert the shifter assembly from the bottom and with a 6mm allen wrench, secure it to the center tunnel on the rear side with (2) of the supplied M8 bolts as shown in FIG 2.

STEP 3: Once the shifter assembly is held snug in the center tunnel, push it up flat against the car and mark the center of the holes for the (2) front mounting bolts as illustrated in FIG 3.

STEP 4: Remove the shifter assembly, then using a drill with 3/8 drill bit, drill a hole at the two marks you made. (May be a good idea to drill with an 1/8 drill bit for a pilot hole first)

STEP 5: Place the rubber gasket atop the shifter assembly and secure it to the baseplate with the (4) plastic push-in rivets. If your shifter appears as the one in FIG 5 you are ready to .

STEP 6: Install the shifter assembly with the rubber gasket installed back into the center tunnel as you did in step 2 as shown in FIG 6. Loosely thread the (2) M8 bolts in, do not tighten yet.

STEP 7: With the same 6mm allen wrench, go inside of the car to install the (2) M8 bolts that hold the front of the shifter assembly up. Since the shifter is loosely mounted from the bottom, grab the shifter arm to pull up on the assembly and line the holes up as shown in FIG 7. Once you have them both threaded in, tighten them down.

STEP 8: Go back under the car and using a 6mm allen wrench again, tighten the (2) rear mounting bolts. If yours appears as the one in FIG 8 it ready to have the cables installed.

Cable Selection The next section of this install guide includes the installation of the cables. Before you can install cables you need to decide which cables you are going to use, OEM or Hybrid Racing. Once you have chosen which cables you would like to use you can move on to step 9.

OEM Cable Install


STEP 9A: Locate the OEM cable keeper in the bag of hardware that came with the shifter. You need the one shown in FIG 9A.

STEP 9B: Starting with the lower cable shown in FIG 9B, snap the endlinks onto the rocker arms and then slide shifter cable bases into grooves of the base. (NOTE: These steps should be done with the shifter attached to the car, these pictures are shown off of the car for better reference)

STEP 9C: Slide the OEM cable keeper over the cable bases and using a 4mm allen wrench thread in and tighten the (2) M6 bolts as illustrated in FIG 9C.

Hybrid Racing Cable Install


STEP 9A: Locate the Hybrid Racing cable keeper in the bag of hardware that came with the shifter. You need the one shown in FIG 9A.

STEP 9B: Starting with the lower cable shown in FIG 9B, snap the endlinks onto the rocker arms and then pull back on the cables and place the cable bases in the corresponding holes. (NOTE: These steps should be done with the shifter attached to the car, these pictures are shown off of the car for better reference)

STEP 9C: Slide the Hybrid Racing cable keeper into the grooves of the cable bases and using a 4mm allen wrench thread in and tighten the (3) M6 bolts as illustrated in FIG 9C.

STEP 10: Using a 3mm allen wrench and the (4) M4 bolts you removed in step 1, secure the dust shield to the shifter assembly. Once you have done this and you shifter appears as the one in FIG 10, you are ready to move into the interior of the car.

STEP 11: Slide the offset onto the lower shifting arm, rotate it to your desired position, tighten the lower offset bolt with a 5mm wrench as shown in FIG 11A. Also, place the upper shifter rod to the desired position and tighten the upper offset bolt with a 5mm allen wrench.

STEP 12: Thread your shift knob onto the upper shift rod, and lock into position by tightening the binding nut with a 17mm wrench as shown in FIG 12A. Once you are done with the shift knob your installed shifter should appear as the one in FIG 12B.
