3. MBA Programme of the University of Nicosia

Our Philosophy
Securing a competitive advantage is the key to success in the business world today. Globalisation of industries and markets, and consequent changes in economic policies, are driving countries, organisations and individuals to search for something special and unique that will bring dynamism, energy and innovation to their businesses and provide them with that competitive edge. Managerial ability is proving to be most critical when measuring a firms success against that of its competitors. Those fulfilling a managerial role in todays business environment require an eclectic array of skills and competencies, without which they cannot hope to acquire and maintain the competitive advantage essential for their business to survive and expand within the rapidly evolving global markets in which they operate. Geographical boundaries are disappearing, and a countrys position in the perceived economic developmental hierarchy is no longer as significant as it once was when it comes to competition and excelling on the world stage. The playing field is levelling and those who strive for excellence are the ones who will become the most successful. These are the underlying principles and the philosophy that influences the University of Nicosia in the design and delivery of its MBA programme. The Masters in Business Administration programme examines the management and marketing practices of businesses that continue to grow and thrive in the context of todays competitive world, and analyses the functionality, habits and disciplines that contribute to their continued and sustained ability to succeed in an ever-changing commercial environment. The pace of the programme is vigorous, but at the same time challenging and stimulating; providing students with the skills to enable them broaden their options and compete for the most prestigious and rewarding roles at a professional level once qualified. The curriculum aims at integrating theory with practice. Each of the core and specialization modules involves lectures, discussions, project assignments, roleplaying, case studies and applied class work. The participants deal with realistic managerial and professional problems and challenges, and the syllabus includes visits by executive guests from business and industry.

The University of Nicosia MBA programme offers the possibility of four concentrations, namely:

Systems (MIS) As of 2008, IntercollegeIBS has entered into partnership with City University of Seattle-USA (C.U). The Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) training programme is designed to meet the needs of the professional who wishes to pursue the worlds premier certification in Internal Auditing. The CIA training programme is based on the detailed requirements of the CIA syllabus, and leads to the award of the CIA designation by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) of the United States of America. There are over 40,000 internal auditors in more than 100 countries worldwide that hold the CIA designation. In Romania, however, the number of individuals holding this prestigious title is very small, making the CIA one of the most sought-after and respected professional qualifications, pursued by those who possess the commitment and determination to reach for the top of the auditing profession. Individuals who pursue the CIA title will earn one of the most prestigious professional qualifications in the world and will benefit from:
I Top quality training in all aspects of internal audit I Excellent career prospects as one of the best-qualified

individuals in the auditing profession

I Proof of their commitment and potential to excel at the

top of their profession

7.3 Entry Requirements

CIA candidates must hold a Bachelors degree or its equivalent from an accredited college-level institution. In addition, certain international professional designations such as ACCA, ACA and CAT are accepted as equivalent and, additionally, may grant their holders exemption from Part IV of the examinations. Applicants who do not possess a Bachelors degree and who are unsure whether their educational achievements or professional designation qualify as equivalents, should submit related educational/professional information with their application and include a covering letter requesting review by the Board of Regents of the IIA.

7.2 Course Objectives

The CIA designation is the IIAs premier certification. The CIA title reflects competence in the principles and practices of internal auditing and serves as the only internationally recognised designation for internal auditors. Achieving the CIA qualification demonstrates your commitment to the auditing profession and, whether you choose to stay within the field of internal auditing or to broaden your skills and move onwards and upwards within your organization, the fundamentals of business, risk and control covered by the CIA will prove invaluable. The CIA qualification is awarded by the IIA after successful completion of the CIA exams and 2 years approved practicing experience. CIA candidates are required to complete 24 months of internal auditing experience or its equivalent (which means experience in audit/assessment disciplines, such as external auditing, quality assurance, etc.). Related business professions (such as accounting, law and finance) can be substituted for one year of experience, but candidates will not be certified until the experience requirement has been fully met.

7.4 Course Duration

Candidates have an initial eligibility period of two years after their registration is approved. In addition, each time a candidate sits part of an exam, his/her eligibility period is extended for two years from the date of that exam. A candidates eligibility expires only if the candidate does not take a single exam within any two-year period. If a candidates eligibility expires, the candidate loses credit for any part or parts passed and must submit a new application form in order to take future examinations.

8. The CFA Programme Chartered Financial Analyst

8.1 Introduction
The CFA programme was first administered by the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts (ICFA), one of the Institutes predecessor organizations. In June 1963, after successfully passing the first CFA examination, 268 securities analysts emerged as the inaugural class of CFA chartered holders. This distinguished group of investment professionals took an inherent risk of failing an exam that dealt with subjects in which they were already presumed to be the experts. They put aside their self-interests to establish standards of competence and integrity for the profession of investment management. Some 40 years later, the CFA charter has grown far beyond what any member of its inaugural class could have predicted. Since 1963, the CFA Institute, which was formed by the amalgamation of the ICFA and the Financial Analysts Federation in 1990, has administered nearly 400,000 CFA examinations and awarded more than 35,000 investment professionals with the right to use the charter. Our clientele include many prominent executives from the investment/banking industry, other industrial corporations and the public sector.

8.2 Course Objectives

In the competitive and rapidly evolving profession of investment management, few achievements say more about your commitment to knowledge and high ethical standards than earning the right to use the CFA designation. Employers recognise the dedication that the CFA programme entails, which is why they often make the CFA charter an eligibility requirement for senior-level positions, and are frequently willing to pay for their employees to participate in the programme. The broad-based curriculum of the CFA programme compels students to obtain a working knowledge of principles across core areas of the investment industry, from portfolio management and asset valuation to derivatives and quantitative analysis. Virtually no other designation within the investment management profession carries as much prestige as the CFA charter. Amongst the employers with the highest number of CFA charter holders are Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citigroup, Credit Suisse Group, J.P Morgan Chase and UBS.
