design by Mari Muinonen Exquisite thigh-highs, worked in the round from the toe up shows some serious leg. The flowery lace that runs up the back and the miniature leaf-lace pattern in front are flanked at the sides by cables that continue up into the cable-and-lace ribbed cuff. Sheer elastic woven through the top edge keeps things in place.
STITCH GLOSSARY
Kfb Inc 1 st by knitting into the front and back of the next st. M1R Insert LH needle from back to front under the strand between last st worked and the next st on the LH needle. Knit into the front loop to twist the st. M1L Insert the LH needle from front to back under the strand between last st worked and the next st on the LH needle. Knit into the back loop to twist the st. 3 into 9 Flower inc K3tog without slipping st off LH needle, yo, [k same 3 sts tog without slipping st ffrom LH needle, yo] 3 times, K same 3 sts tog and drop from LH needle3 sts inc to 9 sts. Next (inc) row Cont in pat, work instep sts, M1L, work sole sts, M1R51 sts. Rep inc row every other row 9 times more, working increased sts in St st69 sts. Next rnd Work chart row 17 across instep sts and put on hold. Turn heel Work back and forth on rem 40 sts as foll: Row 1 (RS) K23, ssk, k1, turn. Row 2 (WS) Sl 1, p7, p2tog, p1, turn. Beg Chart 2 Next row Work short rows foll Chart 2 rows 115 25 heel sts rem.

SKILL LEVEL

MATERIALS
3 20z/57g hanks (each approx 215yd/197m) Lornas Laces Shepherd Sock (superwash wool/nylon) in #0ns natural One set (5) each size 3 and 4 (3.25 and 3.5mm) doublepointed needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE 4 clear elastic bands approx 21"/53.5cm long (or length to fit around upper leg) Cable needle Stitch markers

TOE
With smaller needles, cast on 8 sts. Next Row (WS) P8. Next row K8. With RS facing, pick up and knit 8 sts from cast on edge. Pm to indicate beginning of the round16 sts. Distribute sts evenly over 4 dpns. Next (inc) rnd Kfb, k5, kfb, k1, kfb, k5, kfb, k1. Cont to inc in this manner, knitting 2 more sts between incs, every row 3 times more32 sts. Knit one row even. Next row Work incs as before every other row 4 times48 sts. Next row K to last 2 sts, pm to mark new beg of rnd and redistribute sts as foll: k28 (instep sts), pm, k20 (sole sts).

LEG
Next rnd Work 25 sts of row 15 of chart 2, pm for new beg of rnd, and work in the round foll chart over all sts. (Note: 2 sts each are decd in rows 15 and 17.) Cont to foll chart through row 30. Rep rows 1930 twice more.

KNITTED MEASUREMENTS
Sized to fit adult woman.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Circumference (around foot) 7"/18cm Length (bottom of heel to top of cuff) 24"/62cm

CALF
Beg Chart 3 Change to larger needles. Work Chart 3 rows 1 28. Cont to work 12-row rep (rows 112) over the back leg sts and 4 row rep (rows 2528) over the front leg until there are 9 complete flowers on the back leg. End with a chart 3 row 12.

GAUGE
24 sts and 36 rnds = 4"/ 10cm over St st using smaller dpns. TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE.

FOOT
Beg Chart 1 Work Chart 1 on instep sts, working sole sts in St st. (Note On left foot work cable in row 1 as 4-st RC, on right foot work that cable as 4-st LC.) Work rows 1 17 of chart once, rep rows 1417 until foot measures 2"/7cm less than desired length from toe to heel, ending with a row 17.

CUFF
Beg Chart 4 Work rows 151 of chart 4. Knit 1 rnd. Bind off loosely, using a larger needle if necessary.

FINISHING
Wet and let dry, blocking only the cuff. Thread 2 clear elastic bands through 2 rnds of eyelets at top cuff to keep the stockings up. O
