Design and make a light wireless remote controlled fixed wing aircraft (using electric motors only) which can carry the maximum payload, including pitch and roll (yaw is optional) and which can complete a specified path and successfully land in the specified zone.

Objective : Design and make a light wireless remote controlled fixed wing aircraft (using electric motors only) which can carry the maximum payload, including pitch and roll (yaw is optional) and which can complete a specified path and successfully land in the specified zone. Physics of flight The ratio of Lift and Drag, describe the glide performance of the craft at a given time. The more the value of L/D ratio the better would be the aircraft performance. For a non-powered aircraft, L/D ratio of 10-12 is preferred; whereas in case of a powered aircraft, L/D ratio of 6-8 is preferred

Lift and drag coefficients are normally determined experimentally using a wind tunnel. But for some simple geometry, they can be determined mathematically. Lift is generated on the basis of Bernoulli's principle Cross section of a wing is known as an Airfoil Upper edge of an airfoil is longer than the lower edge Time taken by air to travel through both the edges is same. Bernoullis principle :PL+vL2 /2=PU+vu2/2 Hence the air through smaller length acquires lesser speed, hence higher pressure. Aspect ratio =S2/A Higher aspect ratio reduces drag, leading to higher efficiency

Parts of aircrafts The wing supports the aircraft. The tail surfaces provide stability. The fuselage holds the wing and tail in proper relationship to each other and also provides cockpit space for the motor and servos.

Control parts Ailerons : Aileron movement showing right wing down and left wing down movement known as banking Elevators : Elevator movement showing nose up and nose down movement of aircraft Rudder : used to control heading

Those four basic components are:

1. The wings 2. The fuselage 4. The stabilizer and elevator 3. The rudder 5. The landing gear

Two servos can be fixed to the fuselage, one each for elevator and rudder. The servos and a 4.8-6 V battery is connected to a receiver The receiver can be controlled by a radio signal transmitter We use push rod linkages for controlling the control surfaces; one may also use magnetic actuators. RADIO CONTROLLER Futaba RC (remote controllers) along with a receiver which is mounted on the model aircraft. For controlling a simple aircraft a simple 4 channel RC controller will serve the purpose. Receiver and Transmitter The receivers are mounted on the aircraft help in control. These are available along with the corresponding transmitters.

Motors
Two types of motors can be used: 1. brushed 2. Brushless Brushed motors are more rugged, robust, cheaper and easier to use. Brushless motors are lighter, less prone to damage due to overheating. An electronic speed controller (esc) has to be used to control either of the motors. Power For an R/C aircraft, the most common power sources used are Nickel-metal hydride (Ni-Mh) or lithium-polymer (Li-Po) Materials used 1. Light wood- foe making body parts 2. Plastic- which can be melted to cast some essential parts of the copter 3. Wood Binder- like fevicol & fevi quick to join wood and plastics 4. Screw- to join different parts, it also help to make the joints flexible 5. Nail- to make unmovable joints 6. Paints- to colour body to give fancy colour 7. Driller to drill for making joints 8. Scale- to measure length 9. Marker- to mark important points 10. Weighting machine- to measure weight 11. Sand paper- to give surface finish 12. Servo motor- 10W/3.4V for controlling radar 13. Electric motor- 35W/3.4V for movement of blades 14. Antenna both for copter and R/C 15. Circuit board- for making circuit of copter, R/C, charger 16. Solder, soldering iron & wax- for soldering 17. Basic electric equipment- resistor, capacitor, inductor, heat sink, wires, electric tape 18. Instrument required- millimetre, screw box ,cutting player, twister 19. Basic circuit- radio acceptor, radio receiver, battery charger, switching board

20. 21. 22.

Simple switch board, joystick switch, throttle switch Wire connector IC for doing all these operating simultaneous 8051

Application 1. It can be used to understand basics of aerodynamics principal 2. It is useful in making prototype of actual copter. 3. It can be used for security purpose for large area like Wildlife sanctuary etc.IT will carry camera for surveillance. 4. It can be used in doing surveillance of wild animals and birds. 5. It can also be used as war craft.
