The Golden Ratio Abstract The 1.618 ratio, also known as the Golden Ratio, is said to be found in nature and in the human body. This ratio also serves as a measurement scale for much of the architecture around us as it is has been suggested that this ratio makes the measurements on a design more appealing. This ratio is said to be found on pine cones, shells, daisies, and the spiral in a spiral galaxy. The purpose of this research is to gather enough data to represent the human population so we can see if the Golden Ratio is found in the human body. I will collect data from 18 different sources, all of which will be have 2 measurements recorded.

The Golden Ratio The Ratios progression Fibonacci numbers are numbers where the subsequent number is the sum of the previous two: 0, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13. 0+1=1,..1+1=2,..1+2=3,..2+3=5,..3+5=8 Mathematically written as; Xn= Xn-1 + Xn-2, If the last two numbers in the sequence are divided the result is a number which is nearing 1.618 example: 13/8= 1.625, and 21/13= 1.615, 2584/1597= 1.618 (The Golden Ratio) The Golden Ratio is used as a tool to measure beauty as Leonardo Da Vinci and several other painters have used this ratio as their measurement scale to sculpt the perfect human body. The Greek Parthenon is scaled based on the 1:1.6 ratio. This ratio is still used today, it is also found on the perfect rectangle which can be referenced back to the Parthenon. The human body contains several Golden Ratio numbers when measure, examples; The ratio of shoulders to waist, the bottom of the feet up to your naval and from the naval to the top of your head, the ratio from your elbow to the tip of your middle finger to your elbow up to the wrist, the distance between the shoulder line and the top of the head, the distance between the naval and the top of the head to the shoulder line to the top of the head. Method Participants The individuals measured were selected so that height variance was best eliminated. The number of males in this study was 9 and the number of females was 9. It is theorized that men stop growing at 21 and women at 18 years, in order to prevent miscalculation to those who have not

completed their body growth, I restricted the age to 22 for men and 19 for men. As one advances in age, the body starts to shrink. To prevent another miscalculation, I did not measure those who are older than 55 years. I could only measure two races due to the lack of racial variance in the region. Measures To collect data (measurements) a standard tape measurer was used. Each subject was measured from the bottom of their feet up to the lowest part of their naval, represented as Measurement A in table 1.1. The second measurement was derived from the lowest part of the subjects naval to the top of their head, Measurement B in table 1.1. To represent Measurement C, each subject was measured from the bottom of the elbow to the tip of the middle finger. To represent Measurement D, the subjects were measured from the bottom of the elbow to the wrist. Measurements C and D are both found of table 1.1.
