ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION: What is electromagnetic radiation?

Electromagnetic radiation ( E-M radiation or EMR) is a form of energy exhibiting wave like behavior as it travels through space. EMR has both electric and magnetic field components, which oscillate in phase perpendicular to each other and perpendicular to the direction of energy propagation. Classification: EMR is classified according to the frequency of its wave. In order of increasing frequency and decreasing wavelength, these are .. 1.Radio wave 2. Microwave 3.infrared 4.visible light (the only wave that can be seen by human eyes ) 5.ultraviolet 6. x rays 7. gamma rays The electric field and magnetic field components of the EMF can be separately measured. Electrical field strength volts / metre (V/m) or as power density in milliwatts per square centimeter (mW/cm2). Magnetic fields can be quantified in milligauss (mG) or microTesla (1 microTesla = 10 milliguass).

Electromagnetic Spectrum:

The electromagnetic (EM) spectrum is just a name that scientists give a bunch of types of radiation when they want to talk about them as a group. In the electromagnetic spectrum, frequencies range from less than 20 Hz to 100 000 000 000 000 000 000 or 1020 Hz.The visible light spectrum is a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. Visible light ranges from 1012Hz to 1016Hz. Because of their potential effects on our health, we are most concerned with the lower electromagnetic frequencies (20 to 1012 Hz). This range includes Extremely Low Frequencies, or ELF (<100 Hz) Very Low Frequencies, or VLF (100 Hz to 10 kHz) Radio Frequencies, or RF (10 kHz to 300 MHz) Microwaves. (300 MHz to 1000GHz) The electromagnetic spectrum can be expressed in terms of energy, wavelength, or frequency

Methods to Estimate EMF Exposure: Wire Codes A classification of homes based on characteristics of power lines outside the home (thickness of the wires, wire configuration, etc.) and their distance from the home. This information is used to code the homes into groups with higher and lower predicted magnetic field levels. Spot Measurement An instantaneous or very short-term (e.g., 30-second) measurement taken at a designated location. Time-Weighted Average A weighted average of exposure measurements taken over a period of time that takes into account the time interval between measurements. When the measurements are taken with a monitor at a fixed sampling rate, the time-weighted average equals the arithmetic mean of the measurements. Personal Monitor An instrument that can be worn on the body for measuring exposure over time. Calculated Historical Fields An estimate based on a theoretical calculation of the magnetic field emitted by power lines using historical electrical loads on those lines. How are electromagnetic waves harmful to humans? The electromagnetic spectrum can be generally divided into two parts: ionizing radiation and nonionizing radiation. In general, all ionizing radiation, even at low levels, can be dangerous, whereas non-ionizing radiation is usually safe except at very high levels. Excessive or intense exposure to any type can be harmful . visible light is not harmful, but if intense enough can blind you (if exposed to your eyes) or can even burn your skin.

Generally, ionizing radiation are high energy waves and are all harmful, even in low amounts, such as gamma rays, x-rays, and ultraviolet waves. These types of radiation cause ionization of atoms and molecules, leading to destruction of the molecules in cells and DNA. If DNA is destroyed in a cell, that cell can be cancerous. Lower energy waves, such as visible light, infrared radiation, and radio waves are not harmful (again, except in extreme cases). Exposure to high levels of visible or infrared radiation (for example from a powerful laser) can cause blindness and can burn the skin. Microwaves are a low energy wave that are in fact fairly harmful. Exposure to intense microwaves can cause intense heating of the tissue, potentially causing severe burning.

FIBRE AND FABRIC DETAILS Available means of controlling the harmful effects of electromagnetic radiation.Shield on- provides a means of controlling radiation, in the form of woven and knitted fabrics, containing unique metal fibers, rendering the fabric with the ability to shield and reduce penetration of electromagnetic radiation considerably.Test results, conducted for shield on materials at TUV and the Standards Institution of Israel, show that the screening percentage provided by the fabric ranges between 50%-99%, at frequencies of (400-5000 MHz).Sheldon fabrics are user and environmentally friendly according to the Oeko-Tex100 Chromax EMF This is a white mesh material, made from silver plated strands of copper woven into Tergal polyester. It is washable (by hand or a gentle cycle, low temp in a machine). We recommend using the powder we stock which has been tested and shows very little change in shielding quality after being washed. Chromax EMF clothing can also be hired. Protect your brain from RF (radio-frequency) pollution with this handsome baseball style hat. Specially designed to shield the head from frequencies from below AM through microwave, including cellular phone frequencies. Lined with sophisticated NaturaShield fabric woven from cotton with an ultrathin Silver/Copper core thread for excellent radiation protection.

This gives this unique fabric a truly comfortable, natural feel and the durability and wash ability of cotton, but with exceptional reflective characteristics. Provide your brain a quiet place without interference to your mental processes from RF radiation. Washable, Tan color. Adjustment strap means one size fits all. Union made in USA. STATICOT SHIELDING FABRIC Polyester/Cotton blended with micro fine stainless steel fibers creates a low cost, tough fabric similar to khaki.
