NEW BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROPOSAL: SUPERMARKET Personal Statement of Intent The proposal for the MBA dissertation thesis as a new business development proposal is opening a new supermarket in Kathmandu, Nepal. Currently in Kathmandu 4 main supermarkets namely Bhat Bhateni, Gemini, Namaste and Blue Bird Departmental stores are operating their services. Having 2.51 Million (Bureau of Statistics Nepal, 2011) of population living permanently and additional 0.5 million temporary migrants population, the existing supermarkets seems to be insufficient. The number of customers purchasing from supermarkets seems to be 1/4th of the customers buying from the local shops. The currently running supermarkets have seemed to be selling more foreign products with the accurate international prices. Since the daily income of middle class population is $2-$20 (Asian Development Bank, 2010), the purchasing in such supermarkets is far beyond their range as average product prices is $4 and above, as 30% population still below poverty line. Since existing supermarkets are importing foreign products and selling in local market, the flow of local currency outward is affecting the economy of the country. Now, the proposed supermarket will not only promote local products but actually make feel customers as their local shops where they use to buy. The hospitality and the service as well as quality will be maintained. The local producers will be benefited and the currency circulation will be within own country and greater number of people can have employment opportunities. The price of products will be similar to the local market. The new supermarket will be the affordable market for all class people. The market gap generated due to the existing supermarket prices over the product that has affected customer buying behaviour will be reduced. The ownership of the data and business information will be confidential and protected by Data Protection Act and belongs to the business owner. The business will have greater influence to the economy of the country and the people directly indirectly relating to this business. The data can be obtained from ministry offices; chamber of commerces and record of such businesses online and offline. The overall control over the data and business will be of the owner.
