ENERGY
EXPERTISE
ENVIRONMENT

4
With any system it is always important to have the right product and application to maximise efficiency, with
Flkt Woods new e
3
co Crown ERU units we have a variety of applications which benefit from our new range.
The applications below give an indication of where the new e
3
co Crown ERU units can be installed and used to
minimise energy consumption and provide precise air volume control.
Environmental Assessment Schemes
It is now very common for new build projects to try and achieve environmental standards such as those set
out in LEED and BREEAM programs. Flkt Woods, with its market leading knowledge and products in energy
recovery, has helped many projects achieve the very highest levels in both of these schemes.
Energy using Products Directive (EuP)
The various lots within the EuP directive dictates the eco design requirements for minimum efficiency grades and
labelling. Efficiency grades for fans from 125W to 500W are already published, and e
3
co Crown products are
expected to be included in the near future. The efficiency requirement is the combination of the fan and drive
efficiency, so EC technology will offer the end user or the designer a solution that is better than the minimum
eco design standards.
Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD)
The Commission of the European Union has recently proposed a revision of the EPBD (Energy Performance
in Buildings Directive, 2002/91/EC). The objective is to further strengthen the effectiveness and impact of the
existing Directive.
The background to this initiative is to optimise energy usage. It was noted that even in member states where the
existing Directive has been successfully implemented, the Commission still identified an untapped potential for
improvements that could further reduce the energy consumption and CO
2
emissions from buildings.
Building Regulations - Part L2 for New (A) and Existing Buildings (B)
Effective from October 2010, Building Regulations Part L and F outline the need for a healthier working/indoor
environment, with the target to decrease CO
2
emissions by a further 25% from the initial reduction stated
within the 2006 document. The eco design of our e3co Crown range will allow specifiers to create designs
which incorporate the necessary energy usage reductions, whilst still providing precise control of mechanical
ventilation.
European Energy Related Products Directive (ErP)
Not only does the e
3
co-Crown meet the requirements of the ErP 2009/125/EC, but also EN15232. In addition,
at the heart of the product, its heat exchanger core is Eurovent Certificated.
LEGISLATION
In Europe, all countries now have to design their new buildings to meet energy targets that
are set out in the Energy Performance in Buildings Directive (EPBD). All Flkt Woods Energy
Performance of Buildings Directive solutions are designed to enable full compliance with this
and other directives regarding ventilation and air conditioning.
Being a global manufacturer and supplier makes meeting legislation easier for Flkt Woods. It means that
Flkt Woods must produce solutions at standards that equal the most stringent legislation and guidelines around.
Only by doing this can we ensure that we meet relevant standards within every market.
Applications Legislation
OFFICES
Flkt Woods offer a high
performance product range
covering all key elements of
the overall ventilation system.
Our products are designed
to secure the best overall
performance of the system as a
whole, considering parameters
such as health and air quality,
energy efficiency, noise, fire
safety and ease of installation.
EDUCATION
High occupancy levels
during teaching periods
require energy-efficient and
controllable demand-based
management of air quality and
temperature. The comfort,
health and alertness of
staff and pupils is ensured
during the learning process,
but operating costs can be
minimised when these facilities
are unoccupied.
GYMNASIUM/
INDOOR SPORTS
Differing types of activity
and occupancy mean a
broad spectrum of functional
requirements to ensure efficient
removal of used air and the
introduction of fresh supplies.
Systems need to contain and
control the periodic build up
of high humidity levels and
temperature.
HEALTHCARE
For a hospital to operate at
its maximum potential, it has to
have all systems working
at the optimum. This not
only applies to staff,
communications and life
support systems, but also
to pipework, cleaning and
ventilation systems.
RETAIL/
SHOPPING AREAS
With high activity levels
during the working week and
weekends, its important to
make sure that all areas of
ventilation are maintained and
Flkt Woods has the systems
to achieve all requirements.
RESIDENTIAL
The purpose of ventilation is to
provide clean good quality air
by removing the stale, polluted
air from our homes. The main
task is of course to ensure that
the indoor air is healthy and
safe to breathe. Ventilation
today is also about energy and
saving energy costs by adding
heat recovery to the ventilation
system.
TOILETS
Fast, efficient removal of
odours and air-borne pollutants
contribute to the maintenance
of cleanliness and an
acceptable environment in
communal sanitary areas.
INDUSTRY
Flkt Woods technology
is used widely in industrial
processing plants and factories
for ventilation of work spaces,
as vital components in high
tech manufacturing facilities,
and for maintaining delicate
environments within high
tolerance levels in
petro-chemical and
pharmaceutical plants.

nhanced or e
3
lite product versions, with an Electric Post Heater fitted (i.e. BE variant).
Performance (in terms of pressure) for the e
3
ssential variant (with no heaters fitted) is approximately 25 Pa higher, while performance
(in terms of pressure) for the e
3
nhanced or e
3
lite versions, with a Hot Water Post heater fitted (i.e. BC variant) is 45 Pa lower than the BE variant.
Aerodynamic performance has been obtained from tests based upon EN 13053 and conform to ISO 5801.
Max Fan Pressure is optimum for HVAC applications. Data for higher pressures is available on request.

Notes:
1) Coil air on temperatures are based on 2 scenarios, where the external air temperature onto the plate heat exchanger is either -5C/90% RH
or 0C/90% RH, which typically result in plate heat exchange air off temperatures of 11C or 15C respectively, which we have then stated as
water coil air on temperatures.
2) Rated kW Powers and coil air off temperatures stated above are max valves, so should not be used to calculate heating loads.

Performance curves shown are based on the e
3
nhanced or e
3
lite product versions, with an Electric Post Heater fitted (i.e.
Typical Plate Heat Exchanger Core Performance data
Thermal performance data for the Counter-flow Plate Heat Exchanger core is based
on a nominal Airflow per unit (approx. 80% of maximum) and the following air conditions:
External air temperature: -5C @ 90% RH and Return air temperature: 22C @ 50% RH
