Doctoral Programmes Reading List

A great deal of the reading that you will be doing for your research will be on issues that are specific to your own project. This is a highly individual matter, on which your supervisor will advise you. As you proceed, you will assemble a bibliography of relevant materials on your research topic, as well as references to research methodology in particular your own chosen methodology. As you begin the Research Methodology Course (RMC) we suggest that you buy a selection of books that will give you a strong foundation for your research and will provide a good source of information that you can refer to throughout your studies. You will also want to borrow research books from the collection held in the Cranfield library. The following list is a selection of general books on management research, followed by a list of more specialized readings relating to the elements of the RMC, from which you can select further reading. Books are classified as follows: Recommended purchase. Books that are considered to be particularly helpful in addressing the aims of the course. Recommended reading. Books that you may wish to consider buying and/or reading to supplement your personal research library. Specialised reading. Books that you may wish to consider buying and/or reading if you want to read in more depth on a specific topic or approach. During the course, you will be asked to do pre-reading in preparation for particular sessions. Where pre-reading is required a photocopy of the book chapter or article will be in the course binder or ahead of the session. Suggestions on what to read if you want to follow up a particular issue or research method will be given as the course proceeds. These are available either in the Cranfield library, in electronic form (papers in journals), or through inter-library loan, for which you have access. To purchase books please see list of suggested bookshops and on-line suppliers.
