SECTION 1 INTRODUCTION
1-1. PURPOSE. This manual of weight and balance data, used in accordance with the requirements set forth in Technical Manual NA 011B-50, provides a standard system of field weight and balance control for Navy aircraft. It contains top-level guidance and direction and is to be used as the permanent binder for the forms and charts that provide the means for continuous record and control of weight and balance of the aircraft. The only data to be inserted on the charts and forms in this manual shall be data applicable to the individual aircraft, the serial number of which appears on the title page and on the various forms and charts. This manual is to remain with the aircraft and under the control of the Weight and Balance Officer for the reporting custodian of the aircraft. If the aircraft is to be deployed or separated from the reporting custodian for an extended period of time, the Weight and Balance Officer shall copy and retain the latest page of Chart C from the manual, in case the manual is lost during the separation. 1-2. RELATED REFERENCES. Weight and balance personnel shall be familiar with the following related technical manuals (supplementary data to this manual) and other related documents: 1-2.1. Technical Manual NA 01-1B-50 USN/USMC WEIGHT AND BALANCE CONTROL FOR AIRCRAFT. Contains information, guidance and direction regarding weight and balance control, including instructions for use of this manual and aircraft specific weight and balance data. 1-2.2. OPNAVINST 3710.7. The Weight and Balance Sections of the General Flight and Operating Instructions. Contains direction regarding weight and balance clearance for flight. 1-2.3. OPNAVINST 4790.2. The Weight and Balance Sections of the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) volumes I & II. Contains top-level guidance and direction regarding field weight and balance control for Naval aircraft. 1-2.4. NATOPS Flight Manuals for Individual Aircraft Models. Contain the weight and balance (center of gravity) operating limitations for individual aircraft models. Aircraft weights should be used as guidance only. Check the specific aircraft Chart C, Chart E, and Form F for current weight and balance information for that aircraft. 1-2.5. Society of Allied Weights Engineers Recommended Practice (RP) No. 7. Contains guidance for contractor weight control for the design, manufacture and modification of aircraft, including instructions for the preparation of the Basic Weight Check List (Chart A) and the Loading Data (Chart E). 1-2.6. USN/USMC AWBS Handbook. Provides detailed instruction on the use of the Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS) for preparing and maintaining Weight and Balance Handbook charts and forms. 1-3. CHARTS AND FORMS. The system of field weight and balance control requires the use of several different charts and forms. Detailed instructions for use of these charts and forms are included in NA 01-1B-50. The charts and forms referred to herein may differ in nomenclature and arrangement from those shown in previously published copies of this manual since the charts are revised from time to time; however, the general principle of use will not change. Activities may use computer-based systems, such as the Automated Weight and Balance System (AWBS) to assist in maintaining weight and balance control of assigned aircraft. Requirements relative to use of automated systems such as AWBS are provided in NA 01-1B-50. The charts and forms are identified below and copies are provided for reference in SECTION II: 1-3.1. DD FORM 365: RECORD OF WEIGHT AND BALANCE PERSONNEL. This form is used to provide a continuous record of weight and balance personnel responsible for maintaining the aircraft weight and balance handbook and preparation of DD Form 365-4.

1-3.2. Chart A (DD Form 365-1) BASIC WEIGHT CHECKLIST RECORD. The basic weight checklist record is a completed collection of DD forms 365-1 for a particular aircraft, referred to as Chart A. It is a list of basic weight equipment and other items, by aircraft compartment, which are, or may be, installed in the aircraft. 1-3.3. Form B (DD Form 365-2) AIRCRAFT WEIGHING RECORD. This form is used to record data obtained from the actual aircraft weight and balance measurement. 1-3.4. Chart C (DD Form 365-3) BASIC WEIGHT AND BALANCE RECORD. This record is a continuous series of completed DD Forms 365-3. It is a continuous and permanent record of aircraft weight, moment or index, and center of gravity position. 1-3.5. Chart E LOADING DATA. Contains loading data, charts, graphs and other information necessary to perform aircraft loading control (weight and balance flight clearance computations) and to accomplish actual weighings for a specific aircraft model. 1-3.6. Form F (DD FORM 365-4) WEIGHT AND BALANCE CLEARANCE FORM. This form records the weight, moment or index, and center of gravity calculations for a specific loading arrangement on a specific aircraft to ensure the aircraft remains within its weight and balance limitations. 1-4. RESPONSIBILITIES. The aircraft manufacturer inserts all identifying data on the title page of this manual and on the various charts and forms. He completes all charts, including sample weight and balance clearance Form F, if applicable, at time of delivery. All subsequent changes in weight and balance shall be recorded by weight and balance technicians in accordance with instructions contained herein and in NA 01-1B-50. 1-4.1. The Type Commanders shall ensure that reporting custodians establish an effective system for weight and balance control of aircraft assigned to their command. 1-4.2. The aircraft reporting custodian shall ensure that: 1-4.2.1 Records of weight and balance for all assigned aircraft are current and maintained in the correct format. 1-4.2.2 Procedures are in place to ensure that weight and balance flight clearance requirements are met. 1-4.2.3 Weight and balance impacts of modifications are properly recorded on the weight and balance charts of affected aircraft. 1-4.3. Responsibilities and requirements for the NADEP's are in OPNAVINST 4790.2 Vol. II chapter 8 and in NA-01-1B-50. 1-5. AIRCRAFT WEIGHING REQUIREMENTS. Aircraft weighing requirements are delineated in NA 01-1B-50. 1-6. WEIGHT AND BALANCE FLIGHT CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS. Weight and Balance Flight Clearance requirements are in NA01-1B-50.
