10 Easy Daily Sunnah Acts

there are so many ways that one can follow the Sunnah of the Prophet sallallahu alaihiwasallam and we should make it our duty to educate ourselves of the deen and to seek knowledge to allow us to be able to put into practice the Sunnah. Every act of Sunnah has a wisdom behind it and we should thus strive to implement it to the highest possible degree as the Sunnah is there for us to implement so that not only will it benefit us in this life but InshaAllah we shall also see the reward in the hereafter inshaAllah.

1. Waking up
What better way to start your day than waking up the Sunnah way? All you need to do is (which you most likely do anyway) is RUB YOUR EYES.Upon waking up, the Prophet sallallahu alaihiwasallam, used to sit up and rub his eyes with the palms of his hands to rub away the effects of sleep (as related in Bukhari) THANK ALLAH BY READING:

All Praise is for Allah Who brought us to life after our death, and towards him is our (final) gathering. WASH YOUR HANDS. Our beloved Prophet (S) used to wash his hands three times after waking up.

2. Entering & leaving the washroom

Dua before entering the toilet:

O Allah, I seek refuge in you from the male unclean spirits and the female unclean spirits

When leaving the toilet, recite

I seek Your Forgiveness (O Allah)

Followed by All praise is for Allah who relieved me of my discomfort and granted me comfort

3. Getting dressed
We get dressed every day for work, for college, for social gatherings, etc. Here are a few ways of making this simplest of acts, an act of Sunnah!

Dua for getting dressed

All Praise is for Allah Who has clothed me with this (garment) and provided it for me, though I was powerless myself and incapable. ALWAYS START WITH THE RIGHT SIDE. For example if you put on your trousers, start with your right leg. Likewise when you put on shoes, socks etc. start with the right side.

4. Eating food
Food is a great blessing from Allah (SWT) and thus one should try to adhere to the mannerisms of the Prophet (s) in order to get the greatest barakah from it. -Begin and End with the Name of Allah, as by not reciting Bismillah, Satan has an opportunity of partake in the food. Dua before eating:

With the name of Allah's and upon the blessings granted by Allah (do we eat). If you forgot to recite Bismillah at the start, not to worry! Just read this:

With the name of Allah, at the beginning and at the end. Dua after a meal:

All praise is due to Allah who gave us food and drink and who made us from amongst the Muslims. Eat with the right hand (do not eat with the left hand as that is what shaitan does) Prophet (s) would eat what was immediately in front of him using three fingers. Prophet (s) never found a fault in any food that he ate. If he disliked it he simply left it to one side without complaining or making any negative comments about it. Avoid overeating! As according to a Hadith: Apportion a third of your stomach to food, another third to water, and leave the last third empty. The bowl most distasteful to God is a full stomach.

5. Leaving & Entering the house

Narrated in Abu Dawud and Tirmidi, that whoever recites {the following} when leaving the house, the words will serve as a protection from our enemy that is Shaytaan.

(In the name of Allah, I put my trust in Allah, there is no help and no strength except in Allah) Similarly, when entering the house, one should recite:

6. Spread Salam
On the authority of Abu Hurayra (RA) the Prophet (S) said:

I swear by the one in whose hand lies my soul that you will not enter paradise until you believe. And you shall not believe until you love one another. Shall I tell you something, that if you practice it you will love another? Spread the (salaam) Islamic greeting amongst yourselves. [Muslim] So many times in our daily lives we see fellow Muslims walking in the street yet we fail to give them salaam yet its beauties are countless. The simple Islamic greeting of As-salaamuAlaikum that we have has many beauties to it. It also serves as a great icebreaker, it places a smile on the faces of others.

7. Smile its SUNNAH!

Every act that the Prophet sallalahu alaihiwasallam did served a purpose and no doubt smiling also serves a purpose. A simple smile can relieve so much stress and from hadiths it is known that smiling is considered an act of charity. A smile costs you nothing but the contagious effects it can have on others are amazing. As a famous quote goes: A smile is a curve that can set many things straight

8. Removing Obstacles from path

Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (s) said: Belief has over sixty branches. The best of them is the words, There is no god but Allah and the least of them is to remove an obstacle from the road. [Riyad as-Salihin] So many times we might see an obstacle that may harm someone else walking along the same pathway. For example a stick, a stone, litter or something else could lead to someone else falling over it and injuring themselves. If you see such an obstacle you should try to move it to one side. The reward of removing an obstacle from the path is immense and a hadith states that if a man who is walking along on a road finds a thorny branch in the road and removes it, Allah forgives his sins.

9. Afternoon Nap
The Prophet (s) said: Take a nap, for the shayaateen do not take naps" The importance of this mid-day nap, called Qailulah in arabic, has only recently been appreciated by scientists. It not only gives relaxation to the body but is also extremely conducive to sleep at night The sunnah is not necessarily to sleep, but rather to lie down during the daytime for some time to relax. Qailula is between zhur time and 'asr time.

10.

Sleeping

At the end of a tiring day when all you wanna do is jump straight into bed, just remember these few Sunnah acts, with a great reward inshaAllah Dust the bed sheets. The Prophet (s) said: When one of you goes to his bed, let him dust off his bed with the inside of his lower garment, for he does not know what came onto it after he left it. [Bukhari and Muslim] Go to bed in a state of wudhu, as was the Sunnah of the Prophet (s) Once in bed the Prophet (s) used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq and Surat An-Naas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times. [Bukhari]

Further, recite the following dua: O Allah, in You name I Die and I live
