Difference Between Moola Bandha, Ashwini Mudra and Vajroli/Sahjoli Mudra.

Moola Bandha, Ashwini Mudra and Vajroli/Sahjoli Mudra are three primary important practices of Kundalini yoga which have referred at various places in scriptures. But before start practicing these, one should clearly understand the difference in their anatomical orientation as well as their effects. Moola-Bandha is used for the awakening of the Muladhara chakra i.e the root chakra, whereas both Ashwini and Vajroli/Sahjoli mudras are used in the awakening of Sacral Chakra. The Vajroli Mudra and Sahjoli mudra are basically the counterpart practices in male and female respectively. The main difference in these three practices lies in terms of point of contraction which has to be focused upon during practicing. Point of Contraction for Male:

(1) Vajroli Mudra: The point of contraction lies in rear part of penis. This muscle action is similar to holding back an intense urge to urinate. (2) Moola-Bandha: The point of contraction is Perineum i.e the area between Urinary organ (Penis) and Excretory Organ (Anus) about one inch inside Skin.

(3) Ashwini Mudra: The Point of contraction is anal muscles/Sphincters. Point of Contraction for Female:

(1) Sahjoli Mudra: The point of contraction lies at clitoris, vaginal walls and urethra. Again the muscle action is similar to holding back an intense urge to urinate. (2) Moola-Bandha: The point of contraction is at cervix and vaginal muscles. (3) Ashwini Mudra: The Point of contration is anal muscles/Sphincters.
