TIPS & HINTS (Umrah Preparations)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: DO study well in advance the fiqh of Umrah before you go. Write all the Duaas out on index cards. Try to memorize as many as you can BEFORE you go. Learn funeral prayers (Janaza) as there will be funeral prayers after almost every fard Salah. DO NOT bring a lot of clothes. You can always wash clothes if you have to. DO bring cloth/nylon bag for your footwear, prayer mat & Quran when entering Haram. DO bring lot of medicines decolgen, imodium, panadol, tuseran/solmux, white flower, etc. Learning basic Arabic conversation will make your daily life easier. The best times to visit Haram to do tawaf and Sayeey, ibadah and to try to touch the black stone etc is from 1AM until Fajr and from about an hour after Fajr until 9 or so. A good schedule would be to sleep from Fajr until Dhuhr. DONT waste your time sleeping. But know when your body is tired and can't take it anymore. Don't make yourself sick. The best spots in Haram are right in front of the Kaabah on the marble surrounding it or on the second level at the front. If you want to be on the haram floor you have to go early and stake out a spot. PREPARE yourself mentally for a lot of frustration, mental anguish, annoyance and anger. PREPARE yourself physically for a lot of walking and physical exercise. You may be walking back and forth from your hotel to the Haram at least 10 times a day, not to mention logging Tawafs and Sayeeys that come out to miles in the end. DO NOT bother bringing anything expensive, like jewelry or electronic equipment. If it's lost or stolen you'll never see it again. DO NOT change money before you go. There are lots of exchanges there that you can go and you'll get a better rate. Bring enough cash for what you want to buy. Don't rely on using your credit card. DO bring some snack food like skyflakes, etc. Make a list of what gifts you have to give to whom beforehand & write down what you want.

DOs & DON'Ts of IHRAM

It is not permissible to cut any hair or to comb the hair in such a manner that the hair falls out. Nor should any nails be cut. Both males and females cannot cover their faces or part of their faces in a way which cloth will touch their faces. Additionally, males cannot cover their heads whereas females should. A menstruating woman should enter into Ihram without praying the 2 rakaats, but she must make intention and recite Talbiyah. She must follow all the rites of Umrah but she cannot enter the Haram and she should delay her Tawaf Ziyaarah which is Fardh, until she is clean. The bone sticking out on the top of the feet should not be covered by the slippers for the males. It is not permissible to wipe the face with any cloth especially the perfumed towels which are distributed in the airplanes. However, it is permissible to use the hands to wipe the face. All the body can be dried with a towel with the exception of the head and face for the males and the face only for the females. It is not permissible to use any perfumed soap, shampoo or perfume. However, you can use Ihram before wearing Ihram. It is makrooh (undesirable) to tie knots or use safety pins in the sheets, but it is permissible to use them in order to hide the satar (private parts). A wet dream does not invalidate the Ihram. The impurity should be washed away and a ghusl (shower) should be taken. That is why it is recommended to take spare sheets of Ihram with you. It is permissible to wrap a blanket or shawl minding that it does not cover the head or face but the feet can be covered. Undoing or changing the sheets, taking a shower, wearing a watch or glasses or wearing a belt to put money in, does not invalidate the Ihram. Talking about any sexual desires with ones wife or kissing or touching with sexual intent etc. is not permissible. Fighting, backbiting, swearing or arguing are all forbidden acts.
