STRESS MANAGEMENT

The biological and behavioral disorders in people are due to the psychological phenomenon called stress. It is a factor that is related to personality, occupation, age, lifestyles and time demands. It is symptomatic and is common to both genders. Eustress is a phenomenon that can be termed as positive aspect of stress. The factors that cause stress in the individuals are called stressors. Extra organizational are environmental stressors and intra-organizational are individual and organizational stressors. Organizational factors like poor working conditions, poor task design, group dynamics, organizational leadership, organisational life cycle, improper organisational structure and design, unfair administrative policies and strategies are responsible for stress in individuals. The negative consequences of stress are depression, heart attack, cancer, sweating, frustration, anxiety. Stress management plays an important role in today's organisation. 95% of tension is created by 5% of carelessness and laziness. This has to be avoided. Manage time properly, learn from the past experiences, live in the present and plan for the future, Have a peaceful sleep during the night time, Think positive etc. are the tips to manage stress.

Stress management is the amelioration of stress and especially chronic stress often for the purpose of improving everyday functioning. Stress produces numerous symptoms which vary according to persons, situations, and severity. These can include physical health decline as well as depression. Levels of stress can be measured. One way is through the use of the holmes and rahe stress scale to rate stressful life events. Changes in blood pressure and galvanic skin response can also be measured to test stress levels, and changes in stress levels. Job stress can be handled by enhancement of self-esteem, planning and organisation at work, delegation, career counseling, stress control workshops, job- relocation, leisure programmes and recreational facilities etc. Managing stress is all about taking charge of ones thoughts, emotions, schedule, environment, and the way one deal with problems. The ultimate goal is a balanced life, with time for work, relationships, relaxation, and fun plus the resilience to hold up under pressure and meet challenges head on. One can control stress levels with relaxation techniques that evoke the bodys relaxation response, a state of restfulness that is the opposite of the stress response. Regularly practicing these techniques will build physical and emotional resilience, heal body, and boost one's overall feelings of joy and equanimity.
