INTRODUCTION

Today, everyone lives and learns in a world that has been altered by the vast stores of information encoded in a variety of formats. The amount of information received in a variety of ways sometimes makes confusion and not all of it is received for the process of improving the level of knowledge, because the input comes from a variety of topics not related or advertising. In the next pages, we share the experiences in the topic and the way Databases help to organize information and use the existing one in the process of teaching and learning.

SOURCES FOR DATABASES: STUDEN-CREATED DATABASES Student-created databases are ones that the students through a research and then enter the findings into records defined by them. The disadvantage is that the database is only as good as the information students identify and enter. If the information is incorrect or not complete, the database will not be very useful. TEACHER CREATED DATABASES They are created by teachers in which them use the flexibility of tools bases database programs to create a database on any topic they wish. A disadvantage is that I takes time to do the research and crate the database. However, once this is done, teachers can use them over and over again. COMMERCIAL DATABASES Often , but not always, they are created in a hypermedia or multimedia format. The example of the Encarta is perfect. The advantage of using them is that the information is already there. The disadvantage is that teachers are limited to the information provided and there is no way to change it. Another disadvantage is that usually this kind of databases is signed for home use and the material is sometimes not appropriate for the grade or level of the class. ONLINE DATABASES Many databases can be accessed using the Internet. Most of them are free but some do charge a fee for their use. One disadvantage is the availability , sometimes is not possible to access because it is in a computer somewhere and then, students need good searching skills in order to use de database effectively.

The use of databases simplifies the process or recording data and uses of it for more applications. The different kinds of database are clearly explained and we recognize the important role that they play in the teaching and learning process.
