UPS has become quite successful and efficient in its package delivery service. In fact, UPS can deliver packages more efficiently and cheaply than the other service provider. Despite its recent problems, success of UPS is due in part to its bureaucratic structure. Rules, regulations, policies, and procedures at DPS maintained a well-defined hierarchy of workers and a welldefined division of labor. In addition to the bureaucratic management, Rational-legal authority is based upon a set of impersonal rules and regulations that apply to all employees. Superiors are obeyed because of the positions they hold within the organization.

Today, they call it as The UPS Enterprise Strategy. This strategy is used to guide business decisions, including how they engage with customers and how they prioritize resources. UPS people were asked to submit questions about UPSs future, and to suggest goals and characteristics needed for success. This information was analyzed along with market data and competitive factors. From this, critical initiatives were developed to define our roadmap for the future.
