A Study of Effect of Caste on Locomotor Disabled Students Scholastic Achievement.

Introduction:There are so many different types of environment factors and psychological factors affect the academic achievement of students specially for the students who are physically handicapped. Environment factors like stress, fatigue and absenteeism and psychological factors like motivation,self-concept and social-emotional problems are most important to need to be identified in these types of students with the physically handicapped and modifications are required to minimize their effects. These types of physically challenged students may underachieve in the school achievement. Teachers must understand not only physical impairment and psychological factors that may affect performance. Once these factors are identified for specific students, their negative effects on performances may be decreased through provision of adaptations, instructional modification and specialized assistance. Hence the researcher selected this topic. Statement of The Problem: A study of effect of caste on Locomotor Disabled students scholastic achievement . Objectives of The Study: (1)To study the scholastic achievement of Locomotor Disabled students of backward caste. (2)To study the scholastic achievement of Locomotor DIsabled students of upper caste.(3)To study the comparison of scholastic achievement of Locomotor Disabled students of backward and upper caste. Area Of Research: The present study based on Locomotor Disabled Students Scholastic Achievement. Thus, the area of present study is special education. Hypothesis: There will be no significant difference between the mean scores of scholastic achievement of locomotor disabled students of backward and upper caste. Identification Of Variables: (1)Independent variables : (a) Locomotor Disability (b) Caste (2) Dependent variable : (a) Scholastic Achievement Key Terms: (1) Locomotor Disability : Locomotor disability means disability of the bones, joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy. (2) Backward Caste : The caste includes in reserve category as OBC, SC and ST and got benefites of reservation from gov ernment in Gujarat state. (3) Upper Caste : The caste were not includes in re serve category in Gujarat state. Population and Sample of The Study: In present study 296 students from 7 special schools for physically handicapped children from five districts of Gujarat state have been selected cluster method. In which 121 upper caste students and 175 backward caste students were selected in the study. Limitation of The Study: (1) The present study is conducted in Gujarat state. (2) Only the students of special schools of Locomo tor Disabled have selected in present study. (3) Only locomotor disabled children have been se lected in Gujarati medium schools. (4) The students selected from secondary schools only. Research Method: The Survey Method used in the present study. Data Collection : In the present study to collect the data of scholastic achievement of students. Researcher has been taken the annual marks of the students previous standard. Technique of Analysis: The researcher has used Mean, S.D. and t-test as statistical technique for the analyzing the collected data. Analysis And Interpretation of The Data: See Table 1 From the table No-1, it is clear that the mean scores of of Locomotor disabled students of backward and upper caste are 56.07 and 58.20 respectively, SED is 1.57 and t-value is 1.36. The t-value is lower than the table value ( at confidence level of .05 is 1.96 and .05 is 2.58 ). So there is no significant difference in scholastic May , 2012

Therefore we can say that caste does not effect on scholastic achievement on locomotor disabled students of backward and upper caste. Findings of The Study: On the basis of the result and interpretation, following conclusion may be drawn. (1) Scholastic achievement of backward caste students were average. (2) Scholastic achievement of upper caste students were average. (3) There was no significant difference between back-

ward and upper cast students scholastic achievement. Suggestions: (1)To get progress in educational success of Locomotor disabled students, expert teachers must be used be used to develop simple technique according to syllabus. (2)People should not criticize to the handicapped children anywhere. (3) For locomotor disabled students make special framework of syllabus and as per time make changes in it. (4)Teacher should co-operate to participating children in different games, co-curriculum and cultural activities with the normal children in a schools.
