Jeremy Dittmer Employee Relations Specialist 625 Sycamore Drive Quincy, IL 62301 Dear Mr. Dittmer: Broadworth is planning to have a seminar on Sexual Harassment and Unlawful Discrimination in the Workplace. I am aware that you need a three-month notice in order to supply an appropriate trainer and any materials that may be required; therefore, I would like to have the seminar scheduled for August 24, 2012 at 3:00 pm in conference room B on the second floor of the hospital. Broadworth would like the seminar to include a live lecture with printed materials PowerPoint presentation, video demonstrations of unlawful conduct, a session-ending investigatory scenario in which all participants can apply and demonstrate their knowledge of the fundamentals in this critical field. In addition, instruction for managers on workplace legal basics, including skills on preventing discrimination in the workplace, the implementation of sound workplace policy and procedure, and have effective counseling on positive resolution of employee-management disputes. The seminar topics should include what constitutes unlawful harassment under current federal law, the major types of sexual harassment, including the circumstances that will render supervisors personally liable for their actions. A few other topics that the seminar should include are the steps all supervisors should take to prevent company liability, including possible punitive damages, the workplace policies an employer can impose to place reasonable limits on romantic relationships between employees, and the major dos and donts in fielding a sexual harassment complaint. Broadworth would prefer a trainer that specializes in representation of employers in all phases of the legal process, including policy implementation, dispute resolution and litigation defense. The trainer should be able to assist employers to understand and comply with the interlocking and sometimes complex laws prohibiting workplace discrimination against employees based on sex, race, national origin, disability, and a host of other classifications protected by federal and state laws.
