New Contact Information for Community Board Members!

What is Chrysalis?
In an effort to help increase the efficiency of our communitys board, and make it easier to contact them throughout the upcoming years, we have made the move to create a new set of email addresses specific to each board position. Below is a list of each board member, their current position, and the email they can be reached at. In the coming years, as new people take a specific board position, these emails will stay with that position, hopefully, saving us lots of time looking up and finding the email address of a new board member!

By Debbie Baxter, 2012 Community Lay Director, comlaydir@hiskyemmaus.com

Before it becomes a butterfly, a caterpillar goes through a growth stage called a chrysalis. On the surface it may not look like much is happening, but the delicate chrysalis process changes the fuzzy caterpillar into an awesome butterfly with wings of intricate designs and intense colors. The chrysalis process symbolizes how Christ can transform your child, grandchild, niece, nephew or neighborhood kid into something beyond your (and their) wildest dreams. It happens when one grows beyond themself, opening their life to Jesus power and love. As I thought about what I should say to encourage the Community to sponsor a youth for our two upcoming Chrysalis Flights, the four teenagers who committed suicide within the past several months kept coming to my mind. I wonder, were they believers? Did they know they were Gods favorite? Did they know God had a plan and a purpose for them? So there you go - my answer on what to say about Chrysalis. Do you know a youth who is a believer? Do they know theyre Gods favorite? Do they know God has a plan and a purpose for them? Now, its our responsibility to ensure they have all the tools they need to have that closer relationship with Christ. To be surrounded by fellow believers to help them during their trials. And of course serve others as they have been served. I challenge you or your reunion group to sponsor one youth for a Flight this summer. I know you know ONE!

STUDYING TO LEAD
LARRY BAILEY, 2012 COMMUNITY SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR COMSPIRITUALDIR@HISKYEMMAUS.COM
An oft quoted truism is, Leaders must be readers. When I decided to go to university, my mother said, You will be studying for the rest of your life. Do you want to do that? I did not know whether she meant her comment to be a threat or a promise. As it has turned out, it was more than I could have imagined. Not only have I studied, but also my mind has been reformed by the years of study. The truth of my changed mind was made clear when I read Pauls letter to the Roman churches for about the 20 th time. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you can discern what is the will of God what is good, acceptable and complete. (12.2) One talk in our Emmaus Walks is the theme of study. When we study, we offer our minds to Christ, and He renews us. I think of the old computer complaint, garbage in/garbage out. When we study, we put truth, wisdom, and faith in; and truth, wisdom, and faith comes out. Our minds either grow or diminish in Gods grace. Study is our initiative. God gives the growth. If you now regularly study, then praise the Lord. If not, here is one way to begin. First, set a time for it. Second, set a limited purpose, such as to study one book of the New Testament. Third, gather appropriate resources, such as a commentary. Third, do it for at least 30 days, preferably 60. Study is a learned habit, and about 30 to 60 days is required for a habit to form in the mind. Study can be alone or in a group. I prefer both. The human brain is a wonder of our Lords creative activity, a magnificent act of grace. Study is our response to His grace. Chapter 4 of the Ephesian letter speaks of the renewed mind in Christ. You were taught to put away your former way of life, your old self and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God (Ephesians 4.2224)

One More on Gift Agape

Rhett Lively, communications@hiskyemmaus.com

Agape Gifts dont start and end during a walk to Emmaus. If we only give to our brothers and sisters in Christ, are we truly giving a loving gift to honor our Lord? How can a lost world learn the love and grace of this God we serve if we arent mirroring Him here on Earth? 1 Peter 4:7-11 (from the Message) tells us, Everything in the world is about to be wrapped up, so take nothing for granted. Stay wide-awake in prayer. Most of all, love each other as if your life depended on it. Love makes up for practically anything. Be quick to give a meal to the hungry, a bed to the homelesscheerfully. Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God's words; if help, let it be God's hearty help. That way, God's bright presence will be evident in everything through Jesus, and he'll get all the credit as the One mighty in everythingencores to the end of time. Oh, yes!

Let us all take these gifts of Agape to the world we live in. I love the idea which Amanda Siruta had during her fourth day talk at community last month. When we are having a bad day, lets go and do some selfless, loving, random act of kindness for someone. It can be a spouse, kid, stranger, whatever the case may be, but through that act of love, we will surely find a way past the struggles of life and remember that our God is bigger than the small stuff! Remember, an act of agape love, whether it be for the pilgrims and team of our walks and flights, or for someone on the streets of daily life, can be anything. A bookmark, a stick of deodorant, a can of Lysol, to paying for the meal of the person behind you in the drive through or sending flowers to someone who would never expect it (you wife on valentines day or your anniversary doesnt count guys!)
2

These items can be found anywhere and dont have to cost much, if anything, if finances are a concern. They simply need to come from the heart of a each of us as we take just a moment to share the love God gave and we all celebrate each day to a soul who needs to feel love that moment, that day.

Correction
One correction about the amount of gift agape needed at each walk. Please make at least 72 pieces of any gift agape. If only 36 (or enough to cover the pilgrims is made), the teams who work so hard to make these the best walks ever wind up left out of the mix. Knowing they need just as much love as the pilgrims, lets make enough for everyone at each walk.

Talk Examples Pool

If you have given a talk on either a men's or women's walk since August, 2008 could you give a copy to Jimmy Smith? Our "example" pool is getting low. You can either email or give a hard copy to Jimmy. His email address is smith@gimmejimmy.com

Agape Clean Up!

Please make sure you check the bucket at each Community meeting and pick-up your leftover Agape. Donna Fillip is your contact person.

Guys Flight #48

Kyle Grove, BF #48, tontotx9@gmail.com
In a society where government officials and public policy are trying to define our nation's morals, the future can seem depressing at times. However, as Christians, we have the Light and Life of the Gospel, Jesus Christ. We have an opportunity this summer to impact the youth of the Permian Basin by sharing God's love with them and in turn plant seeds for the future of our society. We can accomplish such Kingdom work through the two Chrysalis events this summer. My name is Kyle Groves and I have been called to serve as the Lay Director for the Guy's Chrysalis Flight #48 this summer. The Chrysalis will be July 12-15th at Howard College, in Big Spring. God has called a great team for Flight #48 and we are all anxious to start our team meetings in preparation for the Chrysalis. In the meantime, I would like to extend an invitation for you to be a part of the Guy's Chrysalis this summer. First, we need your prayers. Please pray for each team member, caterpillar, the talks that will be given, the chapel services, etc. Second, we need caterpillars. Please be thinking of teenagers that you know - a neighbor, family member, someone from church, a co-worker's kid. Please remember that a youth must be at least 15 years old,
4

or have completed their freshman year of high school, and can be up to 19 years old in order to attend a Chrysalis. Third, sign up for gift and food agape. Please be looking for our clipboards at the next Community Meeting and sign up for some agape needs. Our youth are important in determining the outcome of future generations and so I would like to leave you with the following challenge. Let's make an investment in the future today by doing the three things I mentioned above to support the Guy's Chrysalis: (1) pray, (2) identify potential caterpillars, (3) prepare food/gift agape.

CHRYSALIS MOMENT
Since we will be using Howard College for the first time in a long while for our flights this year, here are a couple of maps to help you locate where you need to go for drop-off, chapel, etc.
When you get to Big Spring, take exit 179 (Birdwell Lane. This is also the Business Exit on the east side of Big Spring.) Once you make the U-turn and get back to Birdwell, take a left and head South on Birdwell. Within a mile youll see the college the left. Youll want to turn left onto Kentucky Way then Right into the college on College Ave.

Due to Scheduling conflicts, Parking Candlelight for the two flights is being moved. Keep watching for more information!
Drop off Location for both flights!

DROP OFF
Pilgrims will be housed in the Womens Dorm South-East of the Dorthy Garret Coliseum. Park in the lot just east of the dorm/ coliseum as noted on the map (left).
