Capitulo I Mientras alicia se imagina un mundo detras del espejo que hay en su habitacion, ella se da cuenta que puede pasar a traves de el. Cuando llega alli, observa que todo gira alrededor de una partida de ajedrez, donde los arroyos y las cercadas dividen las casillas. Las piezas del ajedrez tienen vida propia, alicia puede verlos y escucharlos pero ellos no se dan cuenta que en este cuarto esta ella observandolos, tratando de ayudarlos. "El rey y la reina se encuentran muy asombrados por que no entienden que es lo que esta sucediendo en este lugar, que anteriormente era tranquilo y no exista ningn sujeto extrao que los molestara" En esta habitacin sobre una mesa, alicia se encontr un poema llamado el galimatazo, el cual concluye cuando el hroe da muerte al monstruo con la ayuda de la espada "vorpal". Confusa por la complejidad del poema, Alicia deja el libro y sale de la casa del espejo. Captulo II: El jardn de las flores vivas Cuando Alicia sale de la casa, ella entra en un jardn en el que las flores hablan. La principal de todas las flores del jardn, el Lirio, trata a la nia como si se tratara de otra flor. Ella era la reina roja, alicia quiso hablar con ella y pedirle que le permitiera conocer el jardin, a lo que la reina acepto. Un momento despus la reina decide hacerle una propuesta a Alicia, ella podr convertirse en reina si consigue llegar a la octava casilla en una partida de ajedrez gigante, que ocupa toda una pradera. Alicia acepta, y se convierte rpidamente en un pen de la Reina Blanca. Capitulo III. Los insectos del espejo El primer movimiento que Alicia decide hacer es coger un tren hasta la cuarta fila (se mueve dos casillas, movimiento completamente legal dado que es su primer movimiento). Pero, durante el viaje en tren, ste descarrila y Alicia, para no perder el equilibrio, se agarra a la barba de una Cabra que va sentada junto a ella. Ya fuera del tren, Alicia conoce a un Mosquito que considera a la nia una "amiga de toda la vida". Adems de conversar con Alicia de varios temas y durante un largo rato, el Mosquito tambin presenta a la nia los diversos insectos que habitan al otro lado del espejo: el tbano de caballito de madera, la lucirnaga de postre, y la mariposa llamada melindrosa "meriendaposa". Luego, Alicia entra en un bosque en el que olvida por completo su nombre. Durante un buen rato camina junto a un Cervatillo, quien tambin ha olvidado su verdadera identidad. Pero, al llegar a la salida del bosque, el Cervatillo recuerda quin es y huye espantado, temiendo que la nia le haga algo.
