On the way to the future.


MAN Lions City GL in the EBSF project. The European Bus System of the Future (EBSF) research project is the largest road-based transport project by the European Commission. The aim is to promote the development of an appealing bus system for future public transport and to relieve the traffic situation, particularly in megacities. The EBSF project is divided into a number of subprojects, in which various development approaches are tested in real-life situations across seven European cities. MAN Truck & Bus is taking part in the EBSF subprojects, in which increasing passenger flow and improving carriage of passengers are central issues. The innovative 18.75 metre-long articulated bus from MAN, Lions City GL, is taking part as a demonstrator vehicle in the test in Budapest, which lasts several months. Every workday, the number 86 bus, which has 46 bus stops along an elevenkilometre inner-city route, takes around 26,000 passengers in each direction. The Lions City GL is specially designed for high volumes of passengers, quick passenger turnaround and optimum comfort. Results from a survey of 400 passengers. n Passengers liked the friendly atmosphere, the overall comfort and the number of seats. n Temperature and noise level were found to be more pleasant. n The positioning and clear visibility of the handrails was appreciated. n 88% of those asked rated the newly developed equipment as good or very good.
