THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN FACT AND OPINIONS IN READING COMPREHENSION


The use of knowing fact and opinion is to know what the writer thinks and how the writer supports theirs thinks, between what is proven to be true and what needs to be proven. Its can be easier for you to know the fact and or the opinion from the passage then if you know how to find the main ide a. Another way for know whet her something is fact or opinion, you can use this question, Can this statement can be debated? to know get opinion; and this question, is this known for certain to be true to know the fact. But before we compare fact and opinion, better to us to know w hat is the fact and the opinion first.

A. Facts in Reading Comprehension A fact is a statement that can be proven true or false with some objective standart. Facts are the things known for certain to have happened, the things known for certain to be true, the things known for certain to exist. Connell y (1996), states that fact is a statement of actuall y or occurrence which is based on direct evidence, actual experience, or observation. Since the statements based on personal observation, fact can be tested for its accuracy.

B. Opinions in Reading Comprehension An opinion is a statements that a person believes to be true but it cannot be measured against an objective standard. Opinions are the things believed to have happened, the things believed to be true, the things believed to exist. The opinions may be based on facts, but they are still what we think, not what we know. Conell y (1996), state that an opinion is a statement of belief or feeling which shows o nes feelings about a subject . Means, it expresses its view point or perspective. Since such statements depend on the personal experience, history, culture, and training of the people who hold them, they cannot be judged true or false, right or wrong.
