Introduction
There will always be delays and cancellations at the worlds airports. There are things that can not be controlled such as the weather, and then there are mechanical issues that might come up. However, in the latest study done by Berkeley, there are even more interesting findings that shed more light on improving the aircraft turnaround times with a lot of different variables that impact the timing. According to the Berkeley study, more than half the cost associated with flight delays is borne by passengers. The study further states that delays cost passengers $16.7 billion and the airlines another $8.3 billion for a total industry cost of $33 billion including other costs. The operations around the aircraft are very complex and involve a team effort by multiple companies who are all responsible with a portion of the activity that is very time sensitive. This makes the coordination very complex. There is always room for human error. Furthermore, the airline staff is under great pressure to meet the time deadlines securely and promptly. When things go right, everybody is happy for a job well done. But when things go wrong, it can be a true nightmare costing the airlines millions of dollars per year let alone the impact on their customers- the passengers. With all the track and trace technologies at hand, an integrated approach to provide fully automated visibility at all times is definitely a solution that should not be ignored. This paper defines the solution and clarifies the issues at hand and how technology can actually minimize the risks of errors while minimizing the human intervention.

The economic challenges of cost control are well known. An equally pressing challenge is achieving the ability to have full visibility of all equipment and people in motion in the open land around airport terminals. This is the key to increasing the efficiency around the aircraft and maintaining the desired turnaround times at all times.

EyeDPro addresses the following issues:

Real- time information on assets plays an increasingly important role in operational and financial decision making. More security and efficiency can be achieved when more accurate data on assets in motion are made available in this very complex environment.

Lack of visibility of progress by the airline or its agents No automated exchange of information in real time Most is on paper and/or voice/radio based

Solution 1. All players implement the required track and trace equipment so all movement of staff and critical equipment can be followed in real time and automatically. The support of the hardware helps minimize the human intervention reducing the probability of human errors. The track and trace equipment is in place to integrate and share information in real time. 2. The information gathered by the equipment in place can then be pushed to the workforce using mobile computing and PMR= Work Force Mobility. 3. Share the information between all involved parties to create a transparent turn around process. This also creates a very positive relationship between the carriers and its suppliers.

These solutions: 1/ Improve the security of the open spaces around the aircraft 2/ Enable faster aircraft turnarounds by providing real-time data on the performance of suppliers at the airport Many turnaround delays occur from bottlenecks in the sequence of activities that take place between consecutive flights because the companies carrying out these tasks don't always share information. A breakdown somewhere along the line can cause system-wide snarls in baggage handling, refueling, maintenance tasks and passenger transfer.
