Maximumentropyprobabilitydistribution
FromWikipedia,thefreeencyclopedia

Instatisticsandinformationtheory,amaximumentropyprobabilitydistributionisaprobability distributionwhoseentropyisatleastasgreatasthatofallothermembersofaspecifiedclassofdistributions. Accordingtotheprincipleofmaximumentropy,ifnothingisknownaboutadistributionexceptthatit belongstoacertainclass,thenthedistributionwiththelargestentropyshouldbechosenasthedefault.The motivationistwofold:first,maximizingentropyminimizestheamountofpriorinformationbuiltintothe distributionsecond,manyphysicalsystemstendtomovetowardsmaximalentropyconfigurationsovertime.
