The importance of Prayer

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is Gods will for you in Jesus Christ (I Th 5:16-18)
At the very beginning, when God created the world and all the others out of nothing, by His word alone, He also made the human being, not with His word, but His own hands Let Us make man in Our own image, after Our own likeness (Gen 1:26). God created man out of the dust of the earth, that is, from which all material things were created in the earthly world. But, the difference which make people the most important creatures of Him is their souls. When God created Adam, He breathed into his face the spirit of life. In other words, He gave him a spirit free, intelligent and immortal, according to His image and likeness, and man came into being with an immortal soul. Thus, men belong to two worlds: in body to the visible, material, earthly world, but in soul to the invisible, spiritual world. God created a strong link between these two sides. He combined them in an unique way, so that both soul and body can cooperate in our liberation. As a human being, we need food not only for our body but also for our soul. For body, people do everything to keep it health, strong and warm . For soul, unfortunaltely, nowadays, less and less people care about the health of their souls. They forget to feed him; souls food is Prayer. To keep their souls healthy, people need to pray, need to talk with God. This conversation with Him is as necessary for us as air and food. Everything we have is from God, we have nothing of our own. Life, abilities, health, food, our whole being are given to us by God. Therefore, we must always turn to God to thank Him for everything we have. Within prayer, there is a strong connection between people and their Creator; prayer is one of the greatest gifts given to us from Heaven; prayer is the head of all kindnesses; it is a ladder from the earth to the Gods Kingdom; it is a way to the temporary and eternal happiness, to the eternal life. Prayer is like a holy window: if people sincerely tell to God their intentions, their thoughts, their fears with faith, if they thank him for every hard or good time He gaves them, God will unfailingly fulfill their wishes and grant all they need. Men must completely rely on His holy will and patiently wait, because God alone knows what people need and when to give it to them, what is useful and what is harmful. People must do what St John teach us:

This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him (I Jn 5:14-15) Therefore, through prayer, mans soul ascend to the God, leaving temporary the earthly body. God loves each man like His own son. Thus, He is for people like a father And I will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be My sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty (2 Cor 6:18). Any son who loves his father wont hesitate to tell him everything which disturbs or makes him happy, and there is no father who wont listen to his sons feelings. Peoples connection with God through prayer is important not only because this is a way to stay closer to Him, but also it is a way to protect themselves by the evil forces. St Peter in his first letter warning men Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. But resist hi, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experiences of suffering are being accomplished by your brethren who are in the world (I Pet 5: 8-9). People must be very carefully in their actions because Satan uses times of perplexity to tempt them, as he seeks to devour them. We, people, must resist being overcome with uncertainty but be assured of the things which have been revealed in Gods word and rest in the comfort of Gods promises, as St James said Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray (Jas 5:13). But, to pray to God we firstly must know Who He is. He discovers Himself to us in two ways. Firstly, as long as He created our world, everything around us is created by His word: animals, plants, houses, flowers, the sky, the sun, the day and the night. Therefore, we discover Him through all these things in the visible world. This way is called the Natural Revelation. Secondly, He discovers Himself to us through the Supernatural Revelation through prophets, saints miracles and in the highest form through His Son, the embodiment of Jesus Christ. In His time on the earth, He teached the crowds the Gods word. Jesus the Liberator Himself theached us how to pray Our Father,/ Who art in the Heaven,/ Hallowed be Your name,/ Your kingdom come, /Your will be done/ on earth as it is in Heaven./Give us this day our daily bread,/And forgive us our daily debts,/As we also have forgiven our debtors./And lead us not into temptation,/ And deliver us from the evil (Mt 6:9-13)
