PROJECT- POWER SUPPLY

INTRODUCTION A power supply is a device that supplies electric power to one or more electric loads. The term is most commonly applied to devices that convert one form of electrical energy to another, though it may also refer to devices that convert another form of energy (mechanical, chemical, solar) to electrical energy. A regulated power supply is one that controls the output voltage or current to a specific value; the controlled value is held nearly constant despite variations in either load current or the voltage supplied by the power supply's energy source. TYPES OF POWER SUPPLY There are many types of power supply. Most are designed to convert high voltage AC mains electricity to a suitable low voltage supply for electronics circuits and other devices. A power supply can by broken down into a series of blocks, each of which performs a particular function. For example a 5V regulated supply:

IC REGULATOR (78SO5) The 7805 is a voltage regulator that puts out a constant 5v DC, for an input voltage between 7 and 25V DC. In your project, this voltage regulator can be used to supply power to the DSP board using a 9V power supply, hence allowing your project to move around without having a power cord attached to it. The 7805 comes in a T0-220AB package with three pins that can be plugged into the breadboard. These three pins are Output, Common, and Input. To get a constant5V DC from the regulator, connect the positive end of the DC power source to be stepped down to the input terminal. Connect the negative end of the power source to the common power terminal of the DSP. Connect the negative terminal of the DSP to the common terminal, and the positive terminal to output. The input terminal should be connected to ground using a .33uF capacitor, and theoutput terminal should be connected to ground using a 22uf capacitor. As long as the voltage from the source is greater than 7 volts, the Output and Common terminal of the regulator should put out 5V DC.

DIODE (1N5400) The 1N4001 series (or 1N4000 series) is a family of popular 1.0 amp general purpose silicon rectifier diodes commonly used in AC adapters for common household appliances. Blocking voltage varies from 50 to 1000 volts. This diode is made in an axial-lead DO-41plastic package. The 1N5400 series is a similarly popular series for higher current applications, up to 3 A. These diodes come in the larger DO-201 axial package. These are fairly low-speed rectifier diodes, being inefficient for square waves of more than 15 kHz CAPACITOR (220U)

It uses pillar equipment is IC 78S05. Which be IC voltage regulator 5V / 2A positive TO220. The high-quality and the noise is low. The circuit will work without the extra components, but for reverse polarity protection a 1N5402 diode is provided at the input, extra smoothing being provided by C1-220uF 50V. The output stage includes C2-47uF 25V for extra filtering.
