Dietrich Product Selector General Instructions Initial Startup: Global Preferences: (These Global Preferences will set the

e default preferences for each new job that will be started. As explained later, you will be able to modify these settings at each job level.) o User / Company Information (tab) This information will be placed on the output report. o Connector Inventory (tab) General restrictions can be made on this tab to limit connections that will be made available when the connections are selected. This will limit the connection types that will be displayed on the Connections tab. o Default Connections (tab) Default Slip Clip (Bypass) Connection & Default Rigid Clip (Bypass) Connection The clip and connection methods specified will be used as the default connection for the design of each slip/rigid bypass connection. Default Top Track Connection & Default Bottom Track Connection The connection method is only specified in this selection. The type of track used will be determined by the connection type, slip or rigid, and the size and gauge of the stud being used in the design. Default End Connection Set the default type of connection for each end of the section being designed. If a track is selected, the program will use the Default Top Track Connection & Default Bottom Track Connection settings for the end connections. If a clip is selected, the program will use the Default Slip Clip (Bypass) Connections & Default Rigid Clip (Bypass) Connections setting for the end connections. The Dietrich Product Selector Main Dialog: Create New Job (button): Opens the Job Preferences Dialog o Before starting the new job, the user will be prompted to define the Job Preferences. The Job Preferences will set the default preferences for each curtainwall stud that is designed in this New Job. o Project Information (tab) Job Information Enter the job name. Wind Load Information Select the appropriate setting based on the wind load parameters specified by the Architect or Engineer of Record. o Note: These parameters, with the exception of the mean roof height, least building width and main roof slope, are usually specified on the first page of the structural drawings. The mean roof height, least building width and main roof slope can be determined from the contract drawings. Consult with the Architect or Engineer of Record if this information cannot be located. Building Code This program determines wind pressures for the IBC 2000 and IBC 2003 building codes. Select the appropriate building code specified on the

contract drawings and/or the project specifications. If a different building code is used other that IBC 2000 or IBC 2003, select Other and input the appropriate values in the Design Wind Pressures (Minimum Wind Pressures) section of this screen. Deflection Criteria Wall Deflection Limit: Enter the value specified by the Architect. This value is typically documented in the project specifications. Use 0.7 Deflection: For IBC 2000 and IBC 2003: The 2004 Edition of the AISI Standard for Cold-Formed Steel Framing - Wall Stud Design allows deflection calculations to be computed using only 70% of the components and cladding wind load. Vertical Slip Allowance: Enter the value specified by the Architect. This value is typically documented in the project specifications. If the Architect or Engineer of Record supplies you with minimum pressures, input those values in the Minimum Wind Pressures section of this screen. The program will automatically determine which value controls when designing with IBC 2000 or IBC 2003 building codes. Dead Load Information This value is determined by adding together the weight, in pounds per square foot (psf), of all materials being supported by the stud to structure connections. o Default Stud Information (tab) Set the default curtainwall stud information that can be used as the default stud for each new curtainwall section being designed. This information is also used in calculating the wind loads for the Load Report created on the Project Information (tab). o Connector Inventory (tab) This tab is similar to the Connector Inventory (tab) on the Global Preferences with the exception that these settings are only applied to the current job. o Default Connections (tab) This tab is similar to the Default Connections (tab) on the Global Preferences with the exception that these settings are only applied to the current job. o User / Company Information (tab) This tab is similar to the User / Company Information (tab) on the Global Preferences with the exception that these settings are only applied to the current job. o After setting the Job Preferences, click the Save button. A Save New Job dialog will be displayed from which the user can save the file to any available location. o Once the job is selected the Dietrich Steel Framing Product Selector dialog will be displayed with the job name listed in the display window. Open Existing Job (button): (Opens an existing job that has already been created.) o The user will be prompted to open an existing job file by displaying an Open Existing Job dialog. o Once the job is selected the Dietrich Product Selector dialog will be displayed with the job name and all existing components listed in the display window. Open (button): When a curtainwall stud is selected in the display window of the dialog, the button will indicate which curtainwall stud is selected. By selecting this button, the selected curtainwall stud will open. Double-clicking on the curtainwall stud name will also open the curtainwall stud. (See The Curtainwall Selector)

New Curtainwall Section (button): This opens a blank Curtainwall Selector dialog. (See The Curtainwall Selector) Exit (button): Exits Program Menu Options: o File / Create New Job: See Create New Job (button) o File / Open Existing Job: See Open Existing Job (button): o File / New Curtainwall Section: See New Curtainwall Section (button) o File / Exit: Exits Program o Tools / Edit Job Preferences: See Create New Job (button) Any change in these setting will affect every existing curtainwall stud that is designed in the current job. o Tools / Edit Global Preferences: See Initial Startup The changes will only affect new jobs that are created after these changes are saved. o Help: About / Support / Instructions The Curtainwall Selector If selected in the Job Preferences, the default curtainwall stud will be loaded. Input the section identification. (Component ID) Input the curtainwall studs dimensions. (Decimal Format) Select Member to be used. Select Design Option o See help buttons for each option for the design option definition. Verify other inputs (These inputs will be populated by the values the user input in the Job Preferences dialog.) Select Calculate (Note: a red X will appear on the member if the member fails and the Stud Design Results tab will indicate why the member failed. No connections will be selected for a member that fails.) The Save / New Section button will save the current curtainwall stud and start a new section. The Save / Exit button will save the current curtainwall stud and return the user to the Dietrich Steel Framing Product Selector dialog. Toolbar Options: o The save button will save the curtainwall stud being designed without taking any other action. o The print button will print the report for the curtainwall stud being designed. o The print preview button provides a print preview. Once the report is previewed, the report can be printed from the print preview. Menu Options: o File All the functions made available through the buttons and the toolbar with the addition of the Save As feature. This feature allows the user to create a duplicate of the current curtainwall stud under a different name (Component ID). o Tools Additional Loads (tab) - Custom Design Option Only PARAPET & BOTTOM UNDER HANG SETTINGS o These two settings only apply if designing with the IBC 2003 (ASCE 7-02) or newer building code, which requires additional parapet wind loads. This new code requirement assumes one side of the parapet will experience pressure, while the opposite side

will experience suction, and these forces will add together to create a greater overhang load than the rest of the stud undergoes. The default overhang factors are based on engineering judgment, assuming a worst-case condition, and should only be modified by those persons with technical knowledge of the applicable building code. o General Connection Design (tab) Select whether the program is to design all connections independently or based on the worst case of each type of connection. Note: This feature only designs for the worst-case connection on the current section being designed. Note: This feature only affects the current curtainwall stud being designed. Backward Compatibility o This release is compatible with release 1.0.5 with the following two options: Open as read only. Allows for viewing and printing of the job. Update to current version. Allows for full functionality of the new release by converting the job file to the new release format.

The scope of these instructions are limited to the Curtainwall design only.
