CHANGE OF GUARD The Managing Committee, all members of the Institute and staff of DSOI extend a warm and heartiest welcome to AVM Mathew George, AVSM, VSM who took over as the new President with effect from 01 Dec 2011. He took over the reins from the outgoing President, Maj Gen Rajiv Sachdev. We assure AVM Mathew George, AVSM, VSM of our best of cooperation and unflinching support in handling the affairs of the Institute and wish him success in his very challenging assignment as President, DSOI. NEW YEAR S EVE CELEBRATIONS Members Annual Meeting was held on Sunday, 19 Feb 2012. The Meeting commenced with the President s address followed by two minutes silence to pay homage to the departed members and staff who left for heavenly abode during 2011. The President apprised members of various activities improvements and certain important on going issues. A fairy large number of members actively participated in the deliberations and were satisfied with the functioning of the Institute. The points raised by the members were discussed to the satisfaction of the members. Minutes will be

displayed on the Notice Board and posted on the Website where members can view by logging on to www.dsoidelhi.org

ELECTIONS OF THE MEMBERS TO THE MANAGING COMMITTEE The annual election to the Managing Committee under the retired/exservicemen category for the year 2012 was held at the DSOI on Sunday, 19 Feb 2012. Col (Retd) VR Tokas and Cdr (Retd) PS Dhupia were declared elected by the President and were hailed by the members present.

IMPLEMENTATION OF DSOI SMART CARDS SYSTEM As is the case in many of the reputed service institutes in India, a Smart Card system has been implemented at DSOI as well. In this regard detailed information in the form of Important Notice alongwith a copy of the application form was sent to all members in the month of June/July 2011. Under this system, a Smart Card will be issued to all members, and their respective spouses and dependants. The Smart Card will act as Membership Smart Card and replace the existing Blue Bar Coded Card and store entire details of members/dependants. This will act as a debit card for payment of services provided/utilized at DSOI except for some services like booking of Banquet Hall and Residential Suites which will be integrated in due course. Members will have to charge their respective Smart Cards for the desired amount to utilize any of the DSOI facilities be it Bar, Restaurant, Sports etc. Installation of this system will eliminate the monthly bills. Bills will be raised on annual basis only, wherein one-year advance subscription will be charged in the month of March every year for

the ensuing financial year i.e. 01 April to 31 March next year. It may be appreciated that a system of this nature can only function successfully if the entire personal data of members and their dependants is available at DSOI Members Master Database. Members who have not yet applied for Smart Card are requested to:(a) Download Application form for DSOI Membership Smart Card

from our website viz. www.dsoidelhi.org or collect it by hand from the Billing Section, DSOI. (b) Submit the application, duly completed and signed by the

member, spouse and dependents along with latest photographs. REPAIR OF ROADS AND PARKING AREAS Repair/resurfacing of Roads and parking areas and painting marking of parking slots have been completely carried out. With the repair of roads, the differential of height between the main road outside and our approach road of In and Out gates have been totally tapered making the entry/exit smooth. Members are requested to park their vehicles at designated areas only.

CONVERSION OF MEMBERSHIP Members when posted out or who shift their residence out of the National Capital Region, do not convert their Membership from Active to Outstation. This results in avoidable correspondence on the subject resulting in members paying subscription at active rates. Members converting their

membership from active to outstation are required to pay their subscription in advance. The present billing cycle is from Mar 11 to Mar 13 if the subscription for this period is not paid in advance, the membership is not converted to Outstation as per the Rules of DSOI. Moreover, conversion of membership from active to outstation is not done from retrospective effect. It is in the Member s interest to convert their membership status at the earliest.

UPDATING OF MEMBERS E-MAIL ADDRESS AND MOBILE NUMBER Members are aware that in keeping with the present trend in all walks of life we have switched to the e-mail mode of communication with our members. We have therefore, stopped sending hard copies of bills to members and are using e-mail for the purpose. This has not only caused a saving in consumption on paper and manpower but also on postage. Though we now have the e-mail address of majority of members, there are still a few who have yet to forward the same to us. Members are requested to forward their e-mail addresses and also to keep us posted of changes if any in their address.

HOSTING OF FOREIGN NATIONALS Hosting of foreign nationals in the DSOI is permissible subject to security clearance from respective Services HQ. It has been observed that members are requesting this Institute for security clearance at the eleventh hour when it becomes practically difficult to obtain the clearance from the HQ, which causes embarrassment both to the member and their foreign guests.

Members are requested to apply, at least a fortnight in advance to the Institute, in prescribed form available at the Establishment Section for the security clearance for entertaining their foreign guests in DSOI. DRESS CODE Members are requested to ensure that proper decorum with regard to the wearing of dress at the Insitute is maintained. Members are not permitted to enter the main building of the Institute in Dhoti, Kurta-Pajama, and Tshirts without collars or with slogans printed on them, Jeans, Sports kit, wearing sports shoes and chapals. Members bringing their guests to the Institute are requested to ensure that their guests follow the DSOI Dress Code (Bye-Laws Rule Complexes. 47). Similar/appropriate dress code may also be followed at the other outlets of DSOI viz Canteen, Banquet Hall and Sports
