The aim of these lectures is a description of the construction and the main phenomenological implications of the standard model of weak and electromagnetic interactions. Basic knowledge in quantum field theory, and elementary group theory is assumed. The field theory defined by the interaction in eq. (2.1.1) is manifestly not renormalizable, since it contains operators with mass dimension 6.
