Analysis of DC resistive circuits, Overview of Electric Power System

1. A coil of insulated copper wire has a resistance of 160 at 20 C. When the coil is connected to a 240 V supply, the current after several hours is 1.35 A. Calculate the average temperature of the coil, assuming temperature coefficient of copper at 20 C to be 0.0039/ C. 2. A network is arranged as in the Fig Q2. Determine the branch current IBE. (Use network reduction techniques)

As an effort towards reducing power bill, following initiatives are taken. All Incandescent Lamps are replaced by equivalent CFLs (11 W). Switch over to LPG for cooking. Geysers are replaced by solar water heater. Desk top PC will be replaced by Lap top (40 W). Use of Air-conditioners is reduced to half. Compute the monthly electricity bill before and after the effort towards reducing power bill. The Power bill Tariff is as follows.
Meter charge (Fixed) First 30 Units 31-100 Units 101-200 Units 201-200 Units 301-200 Units Above 400 Units Rs 110 /month Rs 1.85/ unit Rs 2.90/ unit Rs 3.60/ unit Rs 4.20/ unit Rs 4.45/ unit Rs 4.70/ unit

Service Charge - 5 % of the bill amount. Subsidy offered in the bill for solar heater installation Rs.40/ month. (For more information on tariff, visit www.bescom.org) 9. Explain the different power system components with figure. 10. Write a page on power generation scenario in India
