Pollution: The undesirable and unintended contamination of the environment by

the manufacture or use of commodities.

Types and Causes of Pollution

The increase in the pollution over the years by man has caused severe damage to the earths ecosystem. Over the years there is an extreme increase in the rate of human diseases, and death rate of various animals and plants on earth, and that is all because of the pollution caused by man himself.

Air Pollution
Air pollution is perhaps the most common and the most dangerous type of pollution. It involves the direct release of chemicals into the environment. The increase in the rate of diseases such as asthma and lung cancer today is due to the increase in the air pollution around us. Air pollution is also a cause of global warming and acid rain.

Causes of Air Pollution

Basically the air pollution is caused by the burning of fuel that directly releases hazardous chemicals into the air. For example the burning of coal releases sulphor dioxide, a poisonous gas which is responsible for acid rain. The sources of such chemicals are the large factories, smoke from the vehicles, chimneys and burning of wood.

Soil Pollution: Soil pollution involves the contamination of soil by the release of harmful
substances into the soil. Soil pollution causes an indirect damage to humans and other animals. The lives of all the living things depend on three sources: water, light and soil. Causes of Soil Pollution: Soil pollution is mainly caused by the release of industrial waste. This waste is directly incorporated into the soil by large industries and factories. Soil pollution is also caused by human acts as mining and deforestation etc.

Water Pollution
The 75% of the earths surface is covered with water and more than half of the total population of earths species resides in water. Our life greatly depends on water and life without water is impossible.

Animals Endangered Due To Pollution

The increase of human population over the centuries has caused not one but many damage to Earth. The increase in human population leads directly to the increase in their demand which in turn leads to animal extinction.

Cause of Water Pollution: Just like air and soil pollution, water pollution is caused by the direct
incorporation of hazardous pollutants. The sources of these pollutants are yet again the large industries and factories that dispose off their waste in lakes and ponds. Noise pollution: an unpleasant sound that has an adverse affect on the human ear. It penetrates into human mind and controls it. Too much noise leads to severe psychological illness and badly affects the behavior.

Cause of Noise Pollution: Noise pollution is caused by the moving vehicles, man made
machines and loud music. Other than that noise can be caused by anything, but these three sources are the main reasons for the noise pollution around us.
Sources and Methods

We can classify major sources that lead to air pollution to the following categories: motor vehicle exhaust heat and power generation facilities industrial processes auto manufacturing fertilizers plants building demolition solid waste disposal solvent evaporation volcanic eruption fuel production roadway construction electrical components manufacturing extraction of metals forest fires .agriculture

Water Cycle and Pollution Water cycle is, simply saying, the circulation of water in earth. In fact, the water in the earth's biosphere is used and reused again and again. This is called water cycle or continuous movement of water between the earth and the atmosphere. It involves the following mechanisms: Evaporation: changing of water from liquid to gas Transpiration: Release of water vapor from plant leaves

Condensation: changing of vapor to liquid (cooled down) Precipitation: Water that returns to the earth (water droplets in clouds become large enough and there comes the rain).

Sources and Methods We can classify major sources that lead to water pollution to the following categories: petroleum products synthetic agricultural chemicals heavy metals hazardous wastes excess organic matter sediment infectious organisms air pollution thermal pollution

Why are Birds and Fish Dying? The tons of dead fish that is being washed up the shores and dead birds found lying on the roof-tops of houses across the world has left people bewildered. In the United States of America, the residents of Arkansas witnessed a weird phenomenon wherein approximately 100,000 dead drum fish were washed up the shores on the eve of New Year. What followed was even more puzzling as thousands of redwings dropped dead from the sky within a radius of one mile in Beebe, Arkansas, - with no possible reason for their death anywhere in picture. If the phenomenon of dead fish being washed up on shores was strange, the death of birds falling from sky made it even more mysterious. Simple Ways to Save the Environment Thinking of ways to save Mother Earth? It's high time we do, as the planet we live on is suffering. We are extracting all it has - oil, ores, water and more. We are cutting down trees, we are killing animals, we are exploiting nature. Earth's resources are depleting, posing a threat to human existence on the planet. It's time we do something to save the planet. Environmental education has made us realize the need to preserve natural wealth. Use CFC-free products. CFCs are released from aerosol sprays, air conditioning systems and refrigerators. Some cosmetic products too, contain CFCs. Some countries have already banned the use of CFC products. CFCs contribute to ozone depletion and greenhouse effect. Using CFC-free products is the simplest way to prevent the harm they cause to the environment. Save energy. There are so many electrical gadgets you must be using daily - the air conditioner, heater, refrigerator and oven among many more. Then, there are lights

and fans. Do you maintain the appliances in good condition? Do you keep a check on their power consumption? Replace the air filters for your air conditioning unit once a month. Save water. Water is a very important natural resource. It's we who waste it, pollute it. The simplest ways to save water - turn off water taps after use. Use of flushes and showers can lead to wastage of water. Use only as much water as necessary.
