His Excellency Muktar Djumaliev Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to the United States Your Excellency, The Committee for Human Rights in North Korea (HRNK), a leading Washington D.C.-based nongovernmental organization, is pleased to invite you to a one-day conference on Tuesday, April 10 to bring to light and discuss extensive information on the political prisoner camp system in North Korea. At the conference, a 200 page report will be issued, entitled Hidden Gulag (second edition), containing satellite photographs of the labor camps and testimonies from former prisoners and guards. Well known experts on the human rights situation in North Korea will lead panel discussions on the different issues involving the camps. Please see attached a draft conference agenda. The conference will be jointly sponsored by The Jacob Blaustein Institute for the Advancement of Human Rights and will be hosted by The Peterson Institute for International Economics at the C. Fred Bergsten Conference Center (1750 Massachusetts Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20036). Should you wish more detailed information about the Committee, please see our website: hrnk.org Over the past ten years, the Committee has published ten major reports on North Korea to document the political prisoner camps, the abduction of foreign nationals, the treatment to which forcibly returned North Korean refugees are subject, and the trafficking of North Korean women . Our reports have been widely cited, including in United Nations reports on North Korea. We very much hope that you or members of your staff will be able to attend. Please confirm the participation of government representatives by having your office e-mail to nkgulag@hrnk.org, to the attention of Ms. Mai Anna Pressley. Respectfully yours,
