Play Day 5 - 16/7/2012

Date: Starday, 27th of Gozran. The party start this session, at the Wrafton Inn, having slept through an uneventful night in their secured room. The party nish their normal morning preparations: Isabella prays, the Monk meditates, Delina communes with her hawk, and the others check and repair gear. The Inn provides the heroes of Winterhaven another ne and free breakfast, compliments of Salvana Wrafton. After spending a short time securing more supplies from various shops in town, the party make their way to the Wizard Tower to speak to Valthrun, as arranged the previous night. He has been up all night and looks very tired. He gives the party a large handful of healing potions to aid in their quest against the Cult of Orcus. It is decided that the mirror, that the party located from the Dragon Burial Site, should not be taken to the enemy; so Valthrun agrees to safe guard it. He places it within an arcane bag, that will both protect it and hide its location from any observer. With that the party leave Winterhaven. ******* With the use of the map, given to them by Valthrun, the party easily nd their way to the Shadowfell Keep and are not affected by its magical protection.

Great piles of shattered stone blocks and scorched timbers dominate a large clearing, within the wooded area. In the center of the debris, stone blocks and timbers have been gathered into a pile. It would appear that someone has cleared a path through the rubble and pulled aside the wreckage to reveal a stone staircase. Bravely the party descend the staircase into darkness, the only light from a lamp that Delina holds. The keen eyes of the Krondor, easily able to see in darkness of tunnels such as these, will prove to be invaluable. The party descend into a large room, with four stone pillars set evenly around the room. The walls are smooth stone and the oors consist of agstones with mortar between them. Krondor thinks the stone craftsmanship of this structure may be of Dwarven origin. A grey mat, positioned on the grey stone oor between the four pillars catches the eyes of the party. They decide to be weary of this mat, suspecting a trap. A sound comes from behind one of the pillars and then a javelin appears in view. It is thrown quickly at the party but misses. A small green gure, with a ugly oversized head, and pointy ears looks out from behind the pillar. Krondor looks at the creatures, Goblin! The party immediately move to engage this threat. Favion skillfully hits the green creature in its shoulder with an arrow, which makes it cry out a scream. Krondor and Hoodlin move up towards it but before they can dispatch it, the Monk carefully leaps over the grey mat, and kills the creatures with a single kick. As the creature is still falling over dead, the Monk grabs the goblin and spins it towards the grey mat. The parties suspicions are conrmed when the dead goblin disappears from sight, as the grey mat, wraps around him as the body collapses into a pit trap. Suddenly the sound of frenzied eating, tiny teeth eating esh, is heard from the pit. Carefully the party look down to see a large number of rats attacking and eating the dead goblin body. It was indeed fortunate that none of the party stood upon the grey mat. ******* With passages leading west, east and south, the party decide to take the western passageway. They follow it around a bend to the north. They come to a larger area that has wooden doors on three sides, the west, north and east. Very faint clanking metal can be heard coming from the northern door. Hoodlin moves up to the door and begins examining it for traps. Whilst he is doing this and all the parties attention is on Hoodlin, two more Goblins sneak up to the party. These two creatures have been following behind them, waiting for their chance to attack. They both hurl hand axes at the party. One hits Favion and injures him. The other Goblin trips on a small rock as he was throwing the hand axe and he stumbles forward, the hand

axe going down rather than up. The creatures injures itself as its own hand axe ies into its foot. The party, now aware of the threat, take action and move towards the two goblins. Likewise the goblins move in to attack. Weapon clashes against weapon. One Goblin falls dead under the battle axe of Krondor. The short sword of one of the Goblins, goes ying out of its hand, as the creatures fumbles its swing badly. It is now unarmed. The creature does not last long though as it is quickly killed by the feet and hands of the Monk of Irori. The sound of battle has alerted someone in the northern room as the door handle begins to turn. Isabella speaks, The North door opens! as she readies her heavy repeating crossbow towards it. Hoodlin, Favion and Delina quickly prepare their ranged weapons towards the door as well, respectively with a light crossbow, short bow and sling shot. As the door opens, a large room can be seen beyond with a large smoldering re pit at the far wall. Another Goblin stands at the doorway. Beyond him can be seen another Goblin further back and a larger creature, a Hobgoblin, stands near the re holding a red hot iron poker. Favions arrow slams into the opening door, and Hoodlins bolt misses completely; hitting the far wall beyond. Isabella, is unfamiliar with her new weapon having only just bought it that morning. She struggles to get the weapon to re. Cursing she points it down, trying to work out what is wrong and as she does so accidentally releases the heavy bolt towards her leg. The bolt graces her shin and draws blood. Only Delina manages to secure a hit; her stone hitting the Goblin in the arm. Goblins and the larger Hobgoblin rush towards the door, making it hard for the party to easily enter the room. Delina sees an opportunity. She moves towards the door and utters arcane words of power, pointing the ngers of one hand towards the open door. Flames spread out from her hand and fan out to the door, spreading wide. The ames rush towards three creatures. Two manage to duck and only get partially burnt but one is burnt very badly. The party use this to their advantage and push forward their attack. Isabella hits one with her heavy bolt. In the confusion, one of the Goblins is killed by another Goblin, who throws a badly aimed hand axe. Another Goblin falls dead, a bolt sticking out of its neck, courtesy of Hoodlins light cross bow.

The large Hobgoblin is slain dead by the battle axe of Krondor. Isabella steps into room rst and ducks to avoid two hand axes thrown at her from either side of the door. The rest of the party rush in. Favion, trips as he passes the door and Isabella and the Gnome lands at on the oor. One of the Goblins is killed quickly by the fast hands of the Monk. The last Goblin fearing for his life runs towards a cage in the corner of the room and shuts himself inside, looking the door. He does not last long however, as Isabella ends his life with a carefully aimed shot from her repeating crossbow, through the bars of the cage. As the Goblin drops dead, Isabella speaks, Let me show you the same mercy you showed others. The battle is over. ******* The room is checked and it is apparent that this must be a torture chamber. Various instruments to inict pain are present. The hide armour that the Hobgoblin was wearing appears to be of very ne quality. Isabella uses her Cleric powers and determines it is enchanted. Both she and Favion examine the item but can not determine its exact properties. Down a western passage that runs off from the torture chamber, a Goblin prisoner is discovered looked in a cell. The party discuss what to do with the creature. Eventually, Krondor, the Monk and Favion insist that they have to free the creature as it would be the right thing to do. Isabella uses her Clerical spell to comprehend the language of the Goblin. Unfortunately, the creature only understands a little common. The creature is called Splug and he agrees to help the party. The party allow Splug to take armour and weapons from the dead goblins in the room. With Splugs limited guidance, the party search out a room to the west that holds ancient and not very valuable stores and supplies, before making their way east past two solid double doors. Splug warns the party about a lot of other Goblins in this area. The party come across an open room, lined with curtains and containing a table and chairs. As the party are deciding what to do javelins come hurling at them from two Goblins that appear from the darkness, near the table. Hoodlin, startled by the sudden appearance of the two Goblins, accidentally lefts off a bolt from his light crossbow. The bolt hits the shoulder of Isabella and draws blood. Hoodlin looks embarrassedly at Isabella, Sorry! Isabella is not very happy, Youre lucky I dont return the favour!

Another javelin is thrown at the Monk. As it is just about to strike him in the chest, the Monk deects the javelin with his arm. The Goblin stares at him in disbelief. One Goblin quickly falls dead, as the party engage forward. The creature bends over forward, clutching its exposed stomach, as Krondor slices the creature open. The Monk, misjudges his round kick and accidentally kicks the corner of the stone wall, drawing blood along his leg. The other Goblin is now facing a wall of opponents; Krondor, the Monk and Favion, who has jumped onto the table to gain height. Knowing he is no match for these, the Goblin turns and tries to run away. Both Favion and Krondor strike with their weapons and hit the eeing Goblin. It runs forward a few steps before collapsing dead, from the blows. There are no other Goblins around. The battle is over. ******* Splug informs the party what lies ahead, as best it can. A door to the north leads to more Goblins. A southern door leads to sleeping quarters and a large double door to the east leads to a Goblin leader. The party decide to investigate the sleeping quarters rst. As Krondor opens the wooden door, he looks into the surprised face of a Goblin who was about to open the door to leave the room. Before either side can react, Favion quickly releases an arrow at the surprised Goblin, killing it. The party try to move into the room but the Goblins, move toward the door to stop them. Only the Monk manages to move in as Krondor is blocking the doorway. Another Goblin falls dead, from the swift blows of the Monk. One of Goblins accidentally hits himself with his own weapon as it swings it too fast. Krondor forces his way into the room, pushing back one of the Goblins. This allows Favion and Hoodlin to move into the room. The last of the Goblins quickly fall dead: two more under the relentless onslaught of the Monk and one by the battle axe of Krondor. All the Goblins lay dead. ******* The room is searched but nothing of value is found. The next room to be investigated is the northern wooden door. The party can hear breathing just on the other side of the door. Krondor opens the door quietly and standing to attention right at the door is a Goblin. Before he can move an arrow from Favions bow,

hits him in chest; killing him instantly. He falls backwards onto the wall behind him and collapses slowly onto the ground. Just past the door is a thick curtain blocking off the rest of the room from view but sounds of goblins talking can be heard. The party gather around the doorway, ready with their weapons. Favion uses his Gnome eldritch abilities to cause ghost like sounds to appear on the far side of the curtain. The voices of the Goblin raise and sound alarmed. One voice however, sounds louder and barks out orders. A few seconds later the curtain is pulled aside as a Goblin appears and walks out of the door. As he does so, Krondor and the Monk are waiting just out of sight and both sides of the door. The Goblin is quickly killed, as the Monk swings his elbow into the rib cage of the beast, crushing the life out of its lungs. As the Goblin falls it lets out a loud gurgle and its body hits the ground hard with a loud thump. The voices on the other side of the curtain shout out guttural sounds, but none of the party can understand their language. Favion, impatiently lets y an arrow through the curtain that hits with a loud thwack a stone wall. The guttural voices let out an excited scream and then are silent. The Monk quietly moves into the room up to the curtain and pulls it aside looking into the room. Two hand axes y at him as he does so but miss. The party now move into the room. The three remaining Goblins are no match for the party. The Monk kills one, Isabella another one and Krondor cuts one Goblin in half, from head to pelvis in one mighty blow. Once again the party are victorious. ******* The room is searched and some basic supplies are found among some boxes in the corner. The party restock on oils. There is some questionable Goblin food, which Splug eats up but none of the party is prepared to risk. Now the last double wooden doors to the east are approached. Faint snoring can be heard on the other side. After Hoodlin checks the doors for traps the party proceed. Krondor and the Monk, open the doors. Revealed is a large room, with an ornate curtain hiding one corner of the room; the snoring comes from that corner. Standing to attention in the middle of the room is one Goblin. Before he can react the Monk races in and grabs him, covering his mouth. The Goblin breaks free however and screams out. The snoring behind the curtain stops.

Favion and Hoodlin ready their weapons, aiming at the curtain. The Monk kicks out at the Goblin twice and crushes its ribs and throat. It falls over dying. The curtain is pulled aside as a large, fat Goblin is revealed. It is dressed in a loose brown clothing and has a crossbow. Favion and Hoodlin, waiting for the curtain to move re their weapons. Both hit. The fat Goblin now has an arrow and a bolt sticking out of it but it does not seem bothered at all. This is indeed a strong foe. Delina, seeing how little the arrow and bolt effected the Goblin, decides to use some strong magic. She steps forward and utters arcane words at the creature. Immediately, it appears it is gripped by fear. It crouches down and holds the crossbow above its head like a shield. It looks about for a place to run; its eyes going over to the southern wall behind the curtain. The party surround the fat Goblin before it can ee. The Monk jumps onto a near by bed and attempt to punch the creature but the unstable bed puts him off balance and he punches a nearby wall, injuring his hand. The party continue to attack the fat Goblin. Completely overcome with fear, all the creature can do, is wave his empty crossbow around, trying to hit the party. Eventually, with one nal swing from Krondor, the fat Goblin falls dead. The battle is over. ******* Searching the room a chest is found next to the bed. Hoodlin picks the lock and within is found a large quantity of gold pieces, 560 in total, and a wooden wand. Favion and Isabella examine the item and determine it is a Wizard wand, that stores Magic Missiles. The Goblins would have been unable to use such an item. A secret door is very obvious in the southern wall, behind the curtain. ******* It is still Starday the 27th of Gozran. About 5pm in the afternoon. The party have cleared out the rst section of the area, successfully. They have found a safe and secure room and their lantern is about to run out of oil. The party have had a long day. And that is where the play session ended.
