Government of India (GoI) plans to develop a Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) covering a length of 1483 km linking Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai The proposed DFC passes through six states in India, of which Gujarat accounts for a majority share of 38% (564 km) of the total length of DFC The influenced area of 150 km on either sides of DFC is being developed as Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). 62% of the total area in Gujarat is under the influence of DMIC The total estimated investments in the DMIC was amounted to INR 1,23,950 Crore (USD 30,250), providing an employment potential of 7,90,500 people

DHOLERA is situated in Ahmedabad district in the Gulf of Khambhat Identified as a Greenfield port, it will be developed along with private sector participation by Dholera Port Limited (promoted by J K Group and Adani Group) Dholera is in proximity with the coastal line. It is covered by water faces on three sides, namely, on the east face by Gulf of Khambhat, on the north side by Bavaliari creek and on southern side by Sonaria creek Proximity to Ahmedabad has provided Dholera a strong locational advantage with a vibrant manufacturing base and investment scenario The project is spread over an area of 35,000 hectares. The processing area which is proposed is 14,000 hectares and rest is non- processing zone Dholera port is primarily involved into handling general cargo, dry bulk, containers, ship breaking and chemical handling facilities

Overview: Initiated by Federal Government, National Rail Vikas Yojana (NRVY) was started for improving the logistics movements across the Golden Quadrilateral The initiative was started with an objective of giving a flux to the rail infrastructure in the country focusing three key areas, Gauge Conversion (GCs), Port connectivity and Multimodel corridors to hinterland Project involves the conversion of 62.36 km Narrow Gauge rail track of Bharuch- Samni- Dahej into Broad Gauge It will provide an increased connectivity between Dahej port, jetties, industries present in the region, SEZs and the mainline of Western Railway from Virar (Mumbai) to Vadodara Major goods for rail borne freight trafficking includes, Coal, Fertilizers & FRM, De-Oiled Cakes, Steel and Food grains, Edible oils etc.

Future Prospects of Project: After the completion of project, it will be the only rail section to cater to the freight traffic from the Dahej port With a length of 47.2 kms, a two lane State Highway (SH6) connects Dahej port to National Highway (NH 8) in Bharuch. The length is proposed to be upgraded to a two lane paved shoulder configuration as a part of Gujarat State Highway Project
