Abstract Charcoal, coming from trees contributes a lot to deforestation and soil erosion. Using trees in making charcoal is now a major factor which contributes to climate change. Thousands of trees are being cut off and whats left in the forest are a very few number of trees. Up until now, many Filipinos are still making use of charcoal in cooking, most especially those who live up in the mountains. In this case, it will probably increase the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere, causing hazards to our environment. The researcher has chosen potato peel in making charcoal or briquettes. This will be environment-friendly for the researchers removed the carbonate before making charcoal out of it. The following are the steps on how make a charcoal by using potato peel. First, prepare all the materials needed: dried potato peels heated under the sun, clay soil or mica soil, cassava flour and water. After all the materials are present, half- burned the dried potato peel in the oven under it reaches its golden- brown in color. Then, half- burned it under the fire and pound the peels into powder. Mix the powder with clay soil or mica soil, cassava flour and add some water. After doing all this, mold the mixture depending on your desired shape. According to the data gathered, the study was successful and it was proven that the product is good enough for all cooking purposes such as boiling or cooking. The researcher concluded that potato peel as an alternative component in making charcoal is effective because majority of the respondents agreed that the product they tested was effective. The respondents had tested it by firing the product using a matchsticks and papers. The researcher would like to recommend to the future researchers to produce more black powder in order to have more good results. After finishing making the product, make sure that the charcoal briquette that made is fully dried under the sun. Make the shapes of the briquettes more creative in order to make an appealing to the people.

Introduction
Charcoal, coming from trees contributes a lot to deforestation and soil erosion. Using trees in making charcoal is now a major factor which contributes to climate change. Thousands of trees are being cut off and whats left in the forest are a very few number of trees. Aside from this, charcoal-making out of trees produce a non-environmental friendly smoke that contributes to health hazards which are usually linked to the respiratory system. In addition to this, the researcher also introduced another benefit of potato other than what people already know, which food is. So, the potato peel that all consider as garbage is now beneficial. Making use of potato peel as charcoal would probably reduce the number of trees being cut off and it will be a big help to lessen cases of soil erosion and flooding. Since the carbon in the peel is shaved off during the process, there is less probability that people might get respiratory diseases such as Lung Cancer and Tuberculosis from using this kind of charcoal. To sum it all up, it is a great help to the environment and to the people if the potato peel will be the main component in making charcoal.
Specific Objective
To produce an environment-friendly charcoal from potato peel To compare the effectiveness of charcoal made of potato peel from commercial charcoal
Null hypothesis
Potato peel is not an effective component in making charcoal.
Alternative hypothesis
Potato peel is an effective component in making charcoal.
Definition of Terms:
1. Agricultural waste wastes that comes from farming 2. Briquette pressed mass (as of charcoal) 3. Carbonate impregnate of carbon dioxide; salt or ester of carbon-containing substance 4. Carbon dioxide gas needed by plants for photosynthesis 5. Charcoal porous carbon prepared by partial combustion 6. Climate change natural phenomena caused by greenhouse effect 7. Deforestation action that cause the forest to be reduced in number 8. Eco-friendly no bad effects with nature 9. Global warming rise of global temperature from its normal temperature 10. Hazard warning; danger 11. Soil Erosion- a natural process wherein the soil is blown away and it is common in areas where the trees have been cut down. 12. Lung cancer- Cancer that forms in tissues of the lung, usually in the cells lining air passages. 13. Tuberculosis- deadly respiratory system disease which is usually caused by mycobacteria 14. Biomass- a plant materials and animal waste used especially as a source of fuel 15. Aggregates- to collect or gather into a mass or whole
product as the time passed by. The researcher selected 10 respondents that could relate on this study especially those people who often use charcoal for cooking. This research was conducted within June 2011 until March 2012.
you need to have dried banana peels, a mixer or starch that can be acquired from cassava flour which acts as a binder and finally you need to have filler/molds where can be used to make shapes of briquettes.3 In making charcoal out of banana peels, one must have banana peels, cassava flour and mica soil or clay soil. First, one must dry the banana peels under the heat of the sun. Then, the dried banana peels will then be put in an oven to be half-burned. Then, after coming out of the oven, pour water on the semiburned banana peels. During this process, black powders will be shaved off and these black powders will be mixed with clay soil or mica soil. 4Then, it is mixed with the cassava flour which acts as a binder. Finally, mold the mixture to make different shaped briquettes.
Methods of Research
The developmental method of research was used in this study. Instead the original main component in making charcoal was used which is the banana peel, the researcher utilized potato peel as an alternative component in making charcoal. This method of research is a method in which the
independent variables can be manipulated in order to change an effect. The manipulated variable in this study is the clay soil and the cassava flour because these materials are used as a binder. Because of this element of manipulation, researcher using developmental method is expected to maintain a good degree of control throughout the period of the study to establish with confidence that cause and effect occurred.
Materials 100 ml of water 500 grams of potato peel 250 grams of clay soil 250 grams of cassava flour
Procedures in Making the Product: In making the product, the researcher must complete all the materials needed to conduct the experiment. Dry the potato peel under the sun and half- burned in the oven until the peel got its goldenbrown in color. Put the peels into the fire to produce a black powder and pound it. To finish the product, mix it with clay soil, cassava flour and water and mold the mixture to the shape of briquette. Procedures in Testing the Product: In testing or using the product you will need a grill, newspapers, lighter or matchsticks, and of course, the briquettes. The process is just like lighting an ordinary charcoal. First, you need to place crumpled newspapers at the bottom of the starter of the grills. Then, place the charcoal on top of the starter of the grills. Light the newspapers and the fire will draw up to the holes of the starter, lighting the charcoals. Once youve made a fire, you can now place your cooking pan on top of the rack and start cooking or boiling.
