Document No.: DEKC1513 Revision No. / Name : 1 / Diploma Issue No. / Date : 1 / Jun-2012

CHAPTER 1 1. What is the definition of Unit and Auxiliary Unit in measurement? 2. List out 3 base units for mechanical and 3 base units for electrical for SI system with their symbol, unit, short form (abbreviation) and Dimension. 3. State SI unit and symbol for Force and Work then give its definitions. 4. Derive the dimensional equation for the following auxiliary units in dimensional system M, L, T and I starts from Velocity, Acceleration , Force then followed as below : i) ii) iii) iv) Work, W; where Work = (Length)(Force) Power, P; where Power = Work/Time Potential Difference, V; where Voltage = Power/Current Resistance, R; where Resistance = Voltage/Current Given : Force, F = [MLT-2] Charge, Q = [IT]

5. Proof that dimension equation for result of multiplication between voltage and current is equal to power dimension equation. 6. Give the definition of Standard and list out all stages of Measurement Standard. Then discuss usage for each stage. 7. Give the definition of Calibration and why it is very important. 8. Give few types of measurement instruments which can be periodically calibrated.

4. If average value for one set of voltage reading was 20.15V, calculate precision for 2 reading which value: i) ii) 19.9 Volts 20.2 Volts (0.9876, 0.9975) 5. Output voltage for amplifier was taken by 6 different students using same oscilloscope as below 20.20 V , 19.90 V , 20.05 V , 20.10 V , 19.85 V , 20.00 V Which one is the most accurate reading? 6. Give the definition of Resolution. 7. Reading from a multimeter changes from 5.123V to 5.124V and lastly stick to 5.122V value. How much resolution for that measurement?
