Traces of Grace
Dear Parishioners, "All good things come to an end. Being a newbie priest can be exhilarating and overwhelming at the same time. One of the first things we realize when we begin any career is how much we are expected to know and how little we actually do know. But when we are open to learning, it is amazing how much we our lives can become fuller and enriched as a result. In this case, Fr. Loc has grown as has St. Edward the Confessor and San Felipe de Jesus. I thank Fr. Loc for sharing his priesthood with us as we have embraced him in our community of faith. Fr. Loc....GO IRISH! Fr. Steve
Dear Fellow Parishioners, In July of 2008 I came to this beautiful parish following my June ordination. Family and friends would ask how do you like St. Edward? Oh, I like it very much except that I was suffering from a severe case of a new disease called Ophthalmothallasitis. (ophthalmo: eye; thallas: ocean; itis: inflammation; inflammation of the eyes due to constant overexposure to scenic ocean beauty.) They all felt very, very sorry for me. Now July 2012 is just around the corner, marking the end of my assignment here and it is time to say goodbye. So, too, is the end of those jokes about Fr Chris. May he rest in peace!
I would like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU, the people of St. Edward and San Felipe de Jess, for your support, kindness, prayers and friendship. THANK YOU for letting me into your souls in confession, into your sacred and that very private space of your life journey. THANK YOU for calling me to task, for reaffirming me over and over that life is beautiful, that life is worth living, not because everything is in perfect order but because our life is made sacred and so special because of the divine presence. THANK YOU for sharing with me your strong conviction, your love of God and His Church, your unfaltering commitment to our Catholic Christian faith at a time when it seems more acceptable and fashionable to declare yourselves agnostic or atheist. THANK YOU for sharing your story, your journey with the Lord, for the time that we break bread together at the table of the Lord, at the table of your home or at Genkai. THANK YOU for allowing me to share in your sad times, during sickness and death, and the joyous times of Baptism and Marriage. THANK YOU, students of St. Edward, and the little ones so beloved to Jesus, for your joy, noise, energy, and irrepressible optimism. When sacramental or pastoral duties wore me down, a brief visit to the school during recess always did me wonders, just like magic. THANK YOU, Moms and Dads, for bringing your children into the life of the Church.
THANK YOU, Fr. Steve, for your guidance and support in my first years of priesthood. I consider you the best gift I received after ordination. If generosity of spirit is a sure sign of holiness, then youre well on your way to receiving a halo : )
THANK YOU, Fr. Chris, Fr. Mario, Deacon Ron & Debi, Deacon Victor & Martha, parish and school staff, parents, students, the Knights of Columbus, Stephen Ministry, Bible study, Serra Club, volunteers, parents grief support group, Bereavement, Christian Service, St Vincent de Paul, Pro-Life, Social Justice, iHOPE, H.E.L.P., Prayer Shawl, GWCTD, various liturgical and prayer groups, Cherub, Women of Wisdom, Marys Corner, Ministerio de msica, Mariachi, Faith Formation, San Felipe de Jesus community, and all the hidden angels of the many and diverse ministries of our parish. I will miss you. Remember when somebody says Buenas noches for a daytime greeting, think of a poor ole Irish soul and throw a prayer his way.
Please pray for me. Pray that I will always be faithful to the Lord. Pray that I will always be a faithful son of the Church. Soon and very soon, my special preachers license will be expired, the license to give lousy homilies Sunday after Sunday because of the oceanic vista. I will soon leave this wonderful faith community of St Edward the Confessor, and while no longer will I suffer from Ophthalmothallasitis, I surely will have something akin to cardio-it is.
Again, THANK YOU, and may the good Lord bless you and your dear families now and always. Fr Loc

Padre Loc

MISCARRIAGES--NEEDS LOVE AND SUPPORT The wound comes from well-meaning people. Well, it wasnt that far along. You can always have another child. Lots of people go through this. Miscarriage is a tragedy that so many people misunderstand. They are not quite sure how to console a friend or relative who has suffered this loss. While there are no magic formulas, there is one fundamental truth that needs to stay front and center: a miscarriage is the loss of a child who is just as real and has just as much value as any other child of any age. A woman who has a miscarriage is a parent who has lost a child, as is the father of the child as well. Life News
