1. Approach and overview

Please read these instructions carefully before starting. The great flexibility of the installation means that there are a large number of settings that cannot be fully explained in the installation windows. The online help provides important explanations and background information during installation. There are three possibilities for installation: On the network to enable the application for multiple users On a networked computer to allow starting of the application On a local computer (home office or computer without network access) Network installation establishes the license server and installs the files either locally or centrally. If the system administrator has created the 'User Master Setup' with the installation of the license server, the parameters are stored here. The user carries out the user installation by calling SETUP easily and securely. In this case, the user does not need any special knowledge. As system administrator, please test this user installation with user rights before enabling it. Network licensing requires in any case a license server where the license connector is plugged in and where the license server application must always be started to allow execution of the application. The SETUP.EXE file on the first installation medium starts the installation. The SETUP folder contains other setup files that are not intended for direct execution. These files are called by SETUP with different parameters depending on your entries during the setup procedure.

2. Network installation terminology and features

Licensing

The term network installation primarily refers to licensing of the software via the network and a central license server. Licensing is not tied to particular types of network or operating system. Every network that supports file sharing and file-byte sharing and all TCP/IP networks can be used. This applies to all commonly used PC and Unix networks.

Licenses

Licenses are awarded dynamically and can be requested by any workstation up to the maximum number. When the software is exited at one workstation, the license is immediately freed up. It is also freed up automatically after a short period in the case of a fault. The license situation can be monitored and modified at any time with the license administration programs (i.e. WKSVMON).

License server Windows/Novell/Linux

The license server is the computer in a network that carries out licensing in addition to its normal tasks. This computer can be any Windows PC in the network (Windows 95 to Windows XP) or a Novell file server (3.11 to 6, but not 4.1) on which a special Netware Loadable Module (NLM) has been started. Also for Linux a license server installation is available. The actual version of this feature is available at www.wibu.de via Internet. This requires a USB type license connector. The following conditions must be met for licenses to be usable for networked PCs: The licensing application must be started at application runtime. The license connector must always be installed at this computer. The license server must be permanently accessible to the client computers.

2. Network installation terminology and features

User Master Setup

The configured User Master Setup is created in accordance with the entries made during server installation. An INI file is created. Thus is achieved that all entries regarding the network configuration have to be entered only once. These settings are then used by the user when he or she starts installation with SETUP. The user does not have to make any entries regarding network properties and license administration, but only confirm his or her working and program folders and program group for the software. As a minimum, the required drivers and individual folders are stored with the user setup.

Installation

Installation of program files can either be to a network drive or local. Even the individual working folders do not have to be local, they can reside on individualized network folders if needed. Using the application in a class, the collective access to the network files results in peak loads to the network, however, which require powerful network components. Therefore we strongly recommend the installation of the program files locally at each user's computer.

3. Installation process following the defaults

Entry of the licensing variant Festo Didactic software is sold with different licensing alternatives. The first installation dialog of mostly all products asks you to select the purchased license type. With some products a reduced student license with limited features is also available. Full licenses are normally available with computer based licensing with licenses connector resp. Online Activation or with network licensing. You have made your decision with your order. Please enter this license type in the first selection.

Network or single Licensing In the second screen you indicate whether you wish to use the network license connector as intended for granting licenses via the network or for the setup of a local single workstation license (without network licensing). The latter can make sense for an instructors home workstation or in special cases for computers without network access (e.g. laptops).

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

3. Installation process following the defaults

Drivers/Restart

Installing drivers Driver support must be installed for detection of the license connector in any case. This driver is mandatory for operation of the software. Installation is automatic, you need Administrator's rights for it.. Afterwards the system must be completely restarted following preinstallation. This is nearly always carried out automatically by the installation program. If necessary, please start the installation again afterwards.

3.1 Selection of license environment

Please select here, whether you want to perform the provided network licensing or a isolated installation

3. Installation process following the defaults

3.2 Selecting the license server

Operating system License server

Please indicate whether licensing will be undertaken by a Windows computer or a Novell file server. If you run a Novell network with the TCP/IP protocol available, we recommend also here to install a Windows license server

User installation

The second selection determines whether you wish to preconfigure your the User installation for your network users.

With another selection you determine to create the pre-configured User Master Setup. This eases the installation at the user's workstations significant.

3. Installation process following the defaults

3.3 Setting up the application

Here you set whether executable program files are to be stored on a network drive and loaded from there or whether each should have these locally on their client PC.

As many networks are too heavily loaded when a whole class starts the software simultaneously, the default is local storage. The next selection determines whether the application is to be set up for this PC or whether this is the administrator desk that is only to be loaded with the license management utilities.

11

3. Installation process following the defaults

From here, the installation procedure depends on previous settings. The following description is based on the default settings (Windows license server, TCP/IP network without router, local installation) which will be used in the vast majority of installations.

Setting the SETUP folder Please enter the network drive on which users will find their preconfigured User Master Setup. Users only need read access rights here. This User Master Setup allows an eased and also more secure installation of the client computers.

3. Installation process following the defaults

3.4 Selecting communication with the license server

Communication between the client PC and the license server can take place in different ways: On any network licesing can be implemented via a license file, in network with TCP/IP direct communication with the license server is possible.

Please enter here whether communication is to take place via TCP/IP and whether all users including the license server are located in the same network segment (that is, no separation by routers). Without TCP/IP, license communication can also take place via the license file (shared file). The final alternative for exceptions is the possibility of using the license connector locally on the PC. This only allows one workstation to be licensed (in a home office or on a laptop, for example).

13

3. Installation process following the defaults

Setting the program folder

Enter here the folder for installation of the software on the client PC.

This setting causes installation of the entire application with program and working folders on the client PC. This results in optimum runtime performance.

Setting the program group for licensing Enter here the program group from which you wish to call the license management utilities later. These license management utilities are installed only on the current computer and therefore this setting is valid only here. It is also not stored in SETUP.INI. You may also copy later the license monitor program WKSVMON to any computer to enable monitoring and correction of the license situation from there.

3. Installation process following the defaults

Display of setup settings

Before execution, you see here the destination folder of the preconfigured User Master Setup with the SETUP.INI file. Also, its contents are shown with all settings just made for this setup. Please note that all settings have to be made from user's view to the network (folder access). If you wish to change any settings, you can select Back to go back to the appropriate place and make the correction. The next step installs the license management files and of the User Master Setup in accordance with your settings.

3.5 Local settings

The following settings affect the installation of the application on this computer. In addition to setting the local program folder and the program group you determine which account may access the application (Windows NT and later).

16

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

4. Non-default program settings

The following section shows the most important program windows that appear if other commonly used settings are selected. Because of the large number of possible setting combinations, the settings cannot be described in a particular order.

4.1 Installing programs in the network (Split folders)

This branch of the installation is selected if executable program files are to be stored in the network. However, this selection can also be used if the program folders are to be created locally, but to be separated from result data, for example, storing these on a second local drive.

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

17

4. Non-default program settings

Setting program folder

Here you determine where the executable program files for the application (on the network) are to be stored. Every user requires read access rights. The data folder is created separately.

You can also use this setting to distribute the program folder and data folder to two different local drives.

This folder setting is stored in the User Master Setup as program folder and the program files are stored only there (network).

18

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

4. Non-default program settings

Setting the user folder

If you install program files separately, the users working folder is set here. Enter a local folder, if possible.

This value is the default value for the user installation. The user needs write access here.

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

19

4. Non-default program settings

4.2 Licensing via license file (shared file, e.g. Novell network)

Setting the folder for the license file

Please enter the folder for the license file here.

Both the license server and the user must have constant read/write access to this file but does not need to see it. If you are using a Novell file server as a license server, the folder must be set up on a drive of the same server. In principle, the license file must be open to simultaneous write access. The installation program attempts to execute the appropriate Novell command automatically. As the syntax differs with the different Netware versions, this does not work reliable in all cases, please verify these settings. This setting must be done manually for other network operating systems.

20

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

5. Installation on the server

As described, the system administrator starts setup by calling SETUP.EXE. By default, setup sets up the license server and (possibly) configures installation for the user. The system administrator can also install the application programs and the license management utilities. The license server is activated and tested during installation. In the case of file-based licensing, this requires short-term file transactions with administrator rights on the license server (Windows PC or Novell server). Also, the license connector must have been connected to the license server during installation.

5.1 Starting applications from the server

During installation, the system administrator decides whether users should access executable application files on the server at runtime or whether these files should be installed locally on each computer. The option "Application locally" should only be deselected in powerful networks, as the simultaneous start and execution of applications from a whole class results in a very heavy network load. This could result in very long response times for all network users.

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

21

6. Installation of clients

No user knowledge required

If the system administrator installs the license server using the option "Create User Master Setup" and so installs the setup files and configurations in a network folder, each user can start setup without any prior knowledge and carry out installation without any problems. To do this, the users starts the SETUP.EXE file. If the User Master Setup or the file SETUP.INI file is missing, the settings have to be entered for each client PC. In this case, the installation is generally not only longer and support from qualified personnel is required, but the integrity of the installation may suffer.

22

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

7. The license server

The license server can be located anywhere in the network. It can be integrated as an NLM on a Novell server or installed on any Windows computer in the network or even on a Linux server.

Windows

Any supported version of Windows can be used as operating system for the license server.

Linux

A solution for Linux is also available, but because of the different distributions not included in the setup. It is available via Internet from www.wibu.de/us . In this case the license server has to be setup first and only later the Installation can be performed with the option "license server already installed". For Linux license servers you need a USB type license connector.

TCP/IP address

If TCP/IP is used in segmented networks, the license server must be given a permanent TCP/IP address. This must be entered during installation and ensures that the server can be access via all switching elements.

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

23

7. The license server

7.1 Setting up Novell NLM

If you wish to install the license server application on the Novell server first carry out the normal server installation as described with the appropriate entries.

During this process, the files WKSVNW.NLM and WIBUKEY.INI are copied into the administrators WIBU subfolder. Move these files to the folder SYS:SYSTEM on your Novell server.

The license file must also be located on a drive of this server. Never overwrite an existing WIBUKEY.INI file without careful checking. This can lead to the failure of licensing for all products. (See License server with multiple licensed applications below.) Install the license connector onto the parallel port of the server and start the NLM at the console with the command LOAD WKSVNW.NLM SYS:\SYSTEM\WIBUKEY.INI -V3.

This starts a process with its own output screen on the Novell server showing the number of licenses available among other information. Following successful testing, please enter this command into the AUTOEXEC.NCF file, so that the license server is automatically available after a restart of the Novell server.

7. The license server

7.2 License server with multiple licensed applications

A license server can be used to license multiple Festo Didactic software packages. First carry out each time the normal server installation as described above with the appropriate entries.

The file WIBUKEY.INI is created in each applications folder license management utilities (WIBU). Copy the contents of all files with the name WIBUKEY.INI one after the other into a new file of this name in a central folder. Briefly stop the license server application and replace the previously used WIBUKEY.INI by the file just generated.

Never overwrite one of these files without careful checking! If you have received multiple license connectors from Festo Didactic with various applications, these can normally be daisy-chained (installed on the other) without any problem. You can also contact Festo Didactic in Germany to arrange to return additional license connectors in return for codes for reprogramming. This reduces the number of license connectors on the printer port.

25

8. The license connector

8.1 Contents of the license connector

Using the icon WIBU-Key you can open the configuration dialog in the Control Panel. With it you see the contents of the license connector but also check and configure all settings of the application's license connection If you order a code for updates or license extensions from Festo Didactic, you can also use this dialog for the license connector modifications. Because of that you never send in the license connector for license extension or changes. This is particularly important for licensing with a runtime license connector.

Number of licenses

The license information can be found in the right column. Each application uses its own software identification. The first to digits represent this number, followed by the three digit license number. The number of licenses is determined by the difference to the following entry with the same software identification.

26

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

8. The license connector

Example

FluidSIM Pneumatics has the software number 12. The first user code is thus '12000'. If this is followed by 12015, this license connector has 15 licenses FluidSIM Pneumatics. If an entry with a different software identification follows, this is a single license.

Trial license

For limited versions (such as trial licenses) a limit counter is active. This is decremented by 1 each time the software is started. When the counter reaches 0, the software can no longer be started. You must then either return the package or extend the license to a full license using online licensing. The procedure for doing this is described below.

8.2 Modifying a license connector

The WIBU key can be modified immediately and without return by the licensee by entering a new code. If, for example, you establish that bottlenecks are being caused by having insufficient licenses or a major update is available or if a limit counter has expired, you can have modifications of licenses reprogrammed remotely by Festo Didactic.

To modify the license connector you need access to it directly or via TCP/IP. If the license connector is used at a Novell server with license file, you can do this short-term action at the administrator's desk.

8. The license connector

Festo receives license data

Remote programming via fax, mail or phone Create a WIBU key context description file using the WIBU utilities (WIBU-BOX Context). To do this, enter the serial number of your license connector as file name and select "Apply". Send this now created file to Festo Didactic as discussed with your Festo sales representative. Best is to send it by email together with your order number or customer number to Festo Didactic headquarter (did@festo.com).

Festo sends license connector coding

You will then receive a license code file that allows you to make the change yourself in just a few moments. The license code can only be used with the license connector indicated for one modification.

28

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

8. The license connector

You enter this code on your computer as a short, simple text file using an editor (such as the Windows program Notepad). If you received the code file via email, you can mark it and cut and paste it into your editor. Open 'WIBU-Box' in the 'Control panel' and enter this files name in the item 'WIBU-BOX update' and confirm with Apply.

The contents of the WIBU BOX are then modified according to the new code and adapted to the new license situation. You can use these additional licenses after restarting the license server application.

9. Managing license information

9.1 License management with the license monitor

How many licenses in use ? You can always check the total number of licenses available and the number of licenses currently in use. This can be seen by the user (in the program) and centrally. In order to gain an overview of the licenses currently in use, the license monitor (WKSVMON.EXE) is installed on the windows license server or on the administrator's computer. The license monitor detects all WIBU boxes connected to this license server and addressable via TCP/IP and displays their current license data. The license situation of file-based (WkNet) license servers (such as Novell) can also be easily displayed:

Free blocked licenses Simply drag the license file (<name>.dat) from the file list to the license monitor window (Drag & Drop). Here you can also free up hung licenses. This can happen when a PC fails to respond (crash).

30

Festo Didactic GmbH & Co. KG 675114

9. Managing license information

9.2 Creating a new license file

Normally, the license file is created during setup. If it becomes damaged, you can replace it by running SETUP.EXE again. This is best done from the license server or from the administrator desk. Switch the following settings in the step 'Program access': 'Install application locally' 'Install the application at this PC' on off

In the step 'Communication mode', set the options 'License file (WkNet)'. 'User Master Setup' off

Finish the installation as 'normal'.

This causes only licensing to be re-installed and checked.

10. Appendix

10.1 Installation from diskettes or network drive

If you do not have a CD-ROM drive available for installation, mostly you can also carry out installation from diskette. Copy the files from the root folder of the CD-ROM and the file SETUP_W.EXE onto a disk. Copy the remaining SETUP_W.W0x files onto subsequent diskettes. Then installation can be carried out without restrictions. In many cases, it is helpful to copy the setup files to a network drive and to execute it from there (e.g. media read fault).
