1. An air conditioner in the airport at Timbuktu runs a cooling system using R410a with a high pressure of 1500 kPa. It should cool the desert air at 45oC down to 15oC. Find the cycles COP. Will the system work? Given:
Pmax=1500 kPa

Required: COP; determine if system will work Solution: @COMPRESOR: adiabatic, reversible State 1: satd vapor: P1= 200 kPa, hg=h1

hg=h1= 264.21 kJ/kg;

sg=s1=1.1196 kJ/kg-K

State 2: P2=P3= 1500 kPa s1=s2= 1.1196 kJ/kg-K

CONDENSER: reversible isobaric State 3: satd. liquid, h3=hf, P3=1500kPa

THROTTLE VALVE: isenthalpic h3=h4=91.49 kJ/kg EVAPORATOR: reversible isobaric

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: desert air needs to be cooled (45oC-15oC)

Obtaining qL: 1. Cp=1.004 kJ/kg

2. Empirical formula Table A.6 Where and ; dT=1000d

Evaluating using: Co=1.05, C1=-0.365, C2=0.85, C3=-0.39 And

Either way, the system will work since that the amount of heat required to be extracted from the desert air is less than what the system can extract, ideally. Air standard refrigeration cycle: 2. An air-standard refrigeration cycle has air into the compressor at 100kPa, 270 K and leaves at 300 kPa. The temperature after heat rejection is 300K. Find the COP and the rate at which air must enter the compressor to provide 1kW of refrigeration. Given:
