Cherokee Pronoun Terms for the Cherokee OSAT

First Person "First Person means that "I" am "doing" the action. It can mean "I" alone (Singular), "I & You" (Dual Inclusive), "I & Him/Her" (Dual Exclusive), "I, You, & Him/Her or Others" (Plural Inclusive), or "I & They" (Plural Exclusive). As long as I am one of the people involved, then it will be a First Person form. *Singular = One Person Second Person "Second" Person means that "You" are "doing" the action. It can mean "You" alone, "You Two," or "You Three (or More)." It means "You" (and maybe others) are doing it, but not "me." Third Person "Third" Person means that "She/He" is "doing" the action. It can mean "She/He" alone or "They." It always means that I'm talking about another person (or people), but not "you" or "me." Singular Plural Him/Her Them Ega. Anega. She/He is going. They are going. Singular Dual Plural You You Two You Three (or More) Hega. Sdega. Ijega. You are going. You Two are going. You All are going. Dual = Two People Singular Dual Inclusive Dual Exclusive Plural Inclusive Plural Exclusive I I & You I & Him/Her I & Y'all I & Them Gega. Inega. Osdega. Idega. Ojega. I am going. I & You are going. I & Him/Her are going. I & You All are going. I & They are going.

Plural = Two or More (Third Person) / Three or More (First and Second Person)

When reading these terms such as "First Person Dual Inclusive," the key is to know who is speaking and who is being spoken to. The person "speaking" is always "I" so you should always think of the statement as coming from "me" when you say these forms. "First Person" means that I'm talking to you about something "I" am doing. If its by myself, it is First Person Singular. If it is just me and You, it is First Person Dual Inclusive. If it is me and Him/Her then its First Person Dual Exclusive. If it is me and You and Him/Her (or more), its First Person Plural Inclusive. But if its me and Them, its First Person Plural Exclusive. "Second Person" means that I'm talking to you about what "You" are doing. If you are doing it by yourself, its Second Person Singular. If its you and one other person (two of you), its Second Person Dual. And if its You and at least Two others, its Second Person Plural. Remember, "I" am not doing it. "Third Person" means I'm talking to you about what "She" / "He" Third Person Singular or "They" Third Person Plural are doing, but "You" and "I" are not. *INCLUSIVE: This means that You (the person I am talking to) IS doing the action with me. Inclusive includes YOU. *EXCLUSIVE: This means that You (the person I am talking to) is NOT doing the action with me. Exclusive excludes YOU.
