RISK ASSESSMENT FOR: Basketball Location: Sports Hall Risks to: All participators, Officials and Spectators Nature of Activity: Basketball, Indoor, Team Game, Minimal Contact (but theres rules)

HAZARD ANALYSIS Significant Hazards: Slips, trips and falls.


Collision with other players. Ball hitting players/officials/spectators Soft tissue injuries e.g. sprains, tears etc. Broken bones e.g. leg, wrist, arms, and fingers.

CONTROL MEASURES
Supervision

There should be a head coach + assistant coaches supervising the sports hall constantly. Training/Qualifications Make sure you have a qualified level 2 basketball coach present at all times. Procedures
Make sure all participators know the health and safety rules and relegations. Make sure all participators know and obey the rules of the game. Make sure the head coaches and assistants run a warm up for participators. Equipment Basketball nets/hoops need to be set up correctly should not be broken or loose. Basketball should be pumped up properly. Balls should be in good condition and the hoops. Environment Make sure the lighting is good in the hall Check the floors have been cleaned Check for slip, trip and fall hazards Ensure there is an even surface Personal Protective Equipment Indoor nonslip trainers Lose clothing, preferably a basketball vest Maintenance Cleaning floor regularly Checking the basketball nets/hoops for any problems.

The football need to be in good condition, e.g. not flat or ripped. Environment Make sure the lighting is good in the hall Check the floors have been cleaned Check for slip, trip and fall hazards Ensure there is an even surface Personal Protective Equipment Indoor non slip trainers Loose clothing to move about easier Shin pads Maintenance
Cleaning the floor regularly and correctly. Make sure the equipment is set up properly e.g. goal posts.
