GROUP DISCUSSION BOARD INSTRUCTIONS

The Group Discussion Board forums for this course are found in the Group Discussion link of the Blackboard course menu. You will be assigned to a small group of 47 students to permit more indepth interaction among students about the assigned topics. The students original thread answering the discussion question posed should be 350450 words. This parameter helps to promote writing that is both thorough and yet concise enough to permit classmates to read all the posts in their small groups. First person is allowed in your posts. Do not post your original response as an attachment. Students do not read attachments, so youll get no interaction. Appropriate references of class resources should be made in APA format. Provide a list of references at the end of your thread. You may cite lecture material in your thread as (Garzon lecture A) and in your references as Garzon, F. (2010). [Insert lecture title]. Liberty University. If you use two lectures in a thread, then cite (Garzon lecture B) and write your reference as Garzon, F. (2010 B). [Insert lecture title]. Liberty University. Not everyone has the same opinions, ideas, and/or backgrounds; therefore, you are to reply to at least 2 classmates original threads. This means that there are at least 3 posts for each Group DB forum to receive full credit. Each reply should contain at least 200300 words. Also, please note that "I like what you said," "That's a good point," and "I disagree with your point" do not count as a complete reply in and of themselves. Rather, stating why you liked or disliked the comment, adding additional thoughts or ideas to the original point, and/or providing alternative ideas or thoughts when you disagree will count as a reply. You are expected to be courteous in any disagreement with a classmate. Thus, personal attacks or calling an idea stupid or another derogatory remark are not acceptable and will count against you in your grade. The specific amount of this deduction is left to the discretion of the instructor. Your thread in each forum is due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Thursday of the relevant modules. Your replies to 2 classmates threads (or the course instructor) are due by 11:59 p.m. (ET) on Sunday of the same modules. The instructor may change these due dates and times at his or her discretion, but such changes will be clearly conveyed to the students. One of the goals of the Group Discussion Board is to encourage student community learning; therefore, the instructor will respond to only a few posts. Instructor comments may add to the conversation, ask a pertinent question, or summarize some of the key points made by students.

Original threads will be penalized 2.5 points per day late until 11:59 p.m .(ET) on Sunday of the assigned week. No original thread after Sunday will be accepted. Replies must be completed by the Sunday, 11:59 p.m. (ET) deadline. Late replies will not be accepted. Your thread and replies should demonstrate clear application of course-related materials pertinent to the discussion question. See the Group Discussion Board Grading Rubric for specific grading criteria.
