COURSE TITLE: COURSE CODE: COMPUTER SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE CHS210A 1ST SEMESTER SY: 2011-2012

EFECTIVE SCHOOL YEAR: CREDITS: 3 UNITS

I.

COURSE DESCRIPTION : This subject presents the fundamental concepts of today's computer system architecture. Students will discuss hardware terminology and contrast core hardware design concepts. Hands-on labs will be used to troubleshoot and implement design plans, hardware upgrades, security devices, and maintenance procedures. System components, from the instruction set architecture level through benchmarking will be evaluated for performance and cost comparisons.. This subject will provide rigid training to student on computer setup, repair and troubleshooting specifically molding them to become exemplary computer technician equipped with skills, confidence, and right attitude toward work. GENERALS OBJECTIVES: After the semester, the trainees will able to:

Identify, analyze, reconstruct and explain the function of the major hardware components of a modern PC Describe in appropriate language, the execution of commands from the level of digital logic through the various computer subsystem to its intended output device Classify modern memory types in terms of architecture, speed, cost and compatibility with legacy systems to determine best requisite type Assess the probable cause of various malfunctions based on accumulated knowledge of component operation Plan, organize, justify and prepare upgrades including plans to manipulate configuration settings to accommodate them
