1.1 System Landscape

The use of several separate environments in a customer landscape is referred to as the System Landscape. The role and number of such systems depends upon the size and complexity of the

PeopleSoft implementation. Typical system roles might be:

Production Environment contains live data to which only the production users have access. Development Environment - enables ongoing customization of the PeopleSoft applications or development of new components by the consultants. Test Environment - enables complete testing of PeopleSoft Applications and RDBMS upgrades and new software modules, prior to implementation in the production system. This system may also be used to test modifications to system components, such as the operating system, new device drivers, new hardware components, etc. Training\UAT Environment - enables customers to undergo training and become familiar with PeopleSoft software modules (sandbox functionality) without impacting the development or production systems

1.2 Physical Four-tier

While customers may configure either a physical or logical four-tier environment, in most cases, PeopleSoft's standard installation procedure recommends a physical or logical fourtier configuration depending on the database and operating system combination you have. Physical four-tier means that separate, physical machines exist in the system architecture.
For Example:

Client (browser) Web server Application server Database server Batch Server (Separate Windows server would be needed if client decides to go with Unix O/S)

Physical four tier architecture can be further be bifurcated in Simple and High availability Architectures, applications and resources are installed on separate individual boxes. Simple Arch: Simple Architecture comprises of one to one mapping of resources and will not have any redundancy for failover or clustered environment for 24/7 support.

High availability Arch. : High Architecture comprises of redundancy in mapping of resources and will have failover or clustered environment for 24/7 support.

Physical four-tier with combined components means that one or more component of the arch are combined on one physical machines which exist in the architecture. Combined components tier architecture is designed to utilize the resources effectively by combining one or more components on single high end box. This design is good to go for the implementation having less number of users accessing the application with medium work load on the servers which shares resources on the same hardware. For example:

Development\Test & UAT Environment

Server landscaping and architecture for dev\test & uat environment proposed is simple, we have separate server which will host the entire database required for pre & post implementation phase. Below Architecture is simple and does not require redundancy and high availability like production.

Landscape & PSFT details: Dev\Test & UAT will be hosted on separate servers without load balancing and redundancy to host PeopleSoft Applications

People Tools 8.51 and Application 9.1 HRMS 9.1 FP with latest MP & Patches Tuxedo10g, Weblogic 11g, MF Cobol & Crystal

Architecture: Arch can be deployed by using separate physical servers as well as virtual servers given fact that resources are available to maintain and manage the virtual machines and performance.

Production Environment Server landscaping and architecture for production environment proposed is High Availability, we have separate server which will host the entire database required for hosting the production arch as represented diagrammatically. Below Architecture is HA and does require redundancy at servers and storage level to avoid risk of any hardware failures.
