Phoenix College Bears 2012 Mens Baseball Media Guide

Presidents Welcome
Generations of students have made Phoenix College the launching point for the pursuit of their educational, professional, and personal goals . Since 1920, PCs talented faculty, administrators, and staff have provided outstanding teaching and learning experiences, resulting in our students success in the classroom, on the field, and far beyond . Intercollegiate athletics programs have long been a vital part of PCs mission . Phoenix College student athletes participate in the Student Athlete Scholastic Success Program, receiving mentorship and advisement from coaches, administration, and faculty as they strive to reach their academic goals . The program has resulted in stellar outcomes: Ten Phoenix College student athletes earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic All-American honors in 2010-2011 with a GPA of 3 .6 or higher . In Fall 2010, 97 student athletes achieved a 3 .0 or better GPA . Five PC athletic teams were designated NJCAA Academic All-American Teams, with a team grade point average of at least 3 .0 . The PC Mens Basketball team took first place in the Region 1 Championship, placing in the top ten nationally . During 2010-2011, 47 Phoenix College student athletes signed on to continue their athletic and academic pursuits at the university level . Thank you for supporting our student athletes. 2012 Coaching Staff

Head Coach Kevin Kimball
Kevin Kimball enters his 2nd season as Phoenix College head baseball coach . He has worked most recently as the assistant head baseball coach and strength and conditioning coordinator at Gateway Community College . Coach Kimball also has coaching experience at the NCAA Division I and II levels and has coached in the prestigious Cape Cod league . Kimball brings extensive high school coaching experience with him as well . Higher education is of great importance to Coach Kimball . He holds an Associates Degree from the College of Southern Idaho, a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology from the University of Northern Colorado and a Masters Degree in Sport Management from Southern Illinois University . Dodgers in the 9th round of the 1992 draft and went on to pitch ten years in the minor leagues with the Colorado Rockies, New York Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, and Florida Marlins reaching AAA with all five organizations . While in the Dodger organization he was selected to the 1993 Florida State League All Star Team and 1994 California League All Star Team . In 1995 he finished second in the Dodger organization in wins with 11, while also being selected as Dodger pitcher of the month in August . During his career, Henderson apprenticed under pitching instructors, Claude Osteen, Burt Hooton, Luis Tiant, Dave Wallace, Jim Wright, Rick Waits, and was very fortunate to work with Red Adams, Sandy Koufax and the late Don Drysdale . Henderson currently is pursuing a bachelors degree in Applied Biological Sciences from Arizona State University and will graduate in the spring of 2011 . This past summer he served as head coach in Arizona Summer Collegiate League .

Assistant Coach Ryan Henderson

Ryan Henderson enters his 2nd season as the Bears assistant baseball coach and recruiting coordinator . In 2005, he served as pitching coach for Glendale Community College . Ryan played collegiately at the University of Southern California (1991-92) and was a member of the Trojans 1991 Pac-10 Conference Championship team . As a starting pitcher, he received the Pac-10 pitcher of the week award for wins against Pepperdine and University of Arizona. USC ranked # 1 in the country in 1991 and missed advancing to the College World Series with a loss to eventual national champion Creighton . That summer he pitched for Orleans in the Cape Cod League and went on to become the closer for the USC Trojans in 1992 . Henderson was selected by the Los Angeles

2012 Athletic Trainers

Lisa Ruiz-Gonzales Head Athletic Trainer
Lisa Ruiz-Gonzales, MS, ATC, AT/L is Phoenix Colleges Head Athletic Trainer and an Assistant Athletic Director. This is her sixth year as Head Athletic Trainer for Phoenix College. She received her B.S. in Exercise Science from Arizona State University and her M.S. in Sports Health Care from Arizona School of Health Sciences. She has been a part of the Phoenix College family and athletic training staff since 1999, initially starting as an athletic training student while attending ASU and continuing through as a graduate assistant while completing her masters degree at ASHS. Lisa is a certified member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers Association, Arizona Community Colleges Athletic Trainers Association (ACCATA), and is currently licensed by the Arizona Board of Athletic Trainers. Lisa and her husband Emmett currently reside in Phoenix, Arizona.

April Perotti ATC Assistant Athletic Trainer

April Perotti, MS, ATC/L, is Phoenix Colleges Assistant Athletic Trainer. This is her second year as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for Phoenix College. April has spent the previous 2 years as a graduate assistant here at PC while completing her masters degree at ASHS. She received her B.S. in Athletic Training from Northeastern University in 2005 and an M.S. in Sports Health Care from Arizona School of Health Sciences in 2007. April is originally from Massachusetts.
