2. Research Project Proposal Proposed Project Title

A Study of the Effect of Students Perception about Accounting on Course Performance. (A Study of Business students of Iqra University)

Aims and objectives of the research

To Study the Relationship Between Students Perception and Students Course Performance. To check Weather negative views regarding the nature and role of a subject persists (Fisher and Murphy, 1995). Negative Stereotypes can result in hostile and distorted judgements (Bierhoff, 1989) and have an important influence on career decisions (Holland, 1973; Byrne and Willis, 2005). To check that book keeping is perceived as negative because it is regarded as boring and routine (Bougen, 1994). Cory (1992) finds that the first year students did not show an excessively negative stereo typical view of accountants, although it is perceived to be more negative then other professions. To see weather first year accounting subjects are critical in shaping students perceptions in that these subjects can either confirm or dispel previously held views (Saudagaran, 1996). This study is motivated by the need to understand weather students perceptions of accounting affect their performance. Teacher can modify curriculum teaching approaches and other aspects of the learning environment, and this has been shown to effect students perceptions of subjects (Ramsden,1992) ; Marton and booth, 1997; Prosser and trigwell, 1999; Jackling, 2005)
Relevance to the Professional and Academic field of the programme

It will help teachers if a relationship between students perception and performance is predicted. To check the use of book keeping which is normally taken as boring and routing? The first information received not only impacts the knowledge of human mind but also influences the processing of new information (Bierhoff, 1989).
Research Approach (Methodology)

The study surveys business students studying at Iqra university who would have taken an accounting course. This survey will be conducted during the management course. Salant and Dillmans (1994) and Dillmans (2000) methodological survey design will be followed. The study participants will come from two programs of a university and the sample will include two cohorts of undergraduate students and graduate students undertaking a course in accounting. The Statistical Analysis: The framework will be studied using a Multiple Regression Model (Introduction to Statistics). This Statistical Technique enables explicit recognition of multiple interacting causes and will allow the researcher to evaluate the logical consequences of assumptions made about the specific nature of casual relationships. H0: Negative Perceptions of accounting at the start of the semester have a negative impact on students performance. H1: Negative Perceptions of accounting at the start of the semester do not have a negative impact on students performance Independent Variable: Negative Perception Towards Accounting 1. Attendance
2.

Giving Time to the Subject

3. Gender 4. Entrance Score Dependent Variable: Course Performance Multiple Regression Equation:

Y= + + ........ Course Performance= + beta(Attendance)+beta(Giving Time to the subject)+beta(Gender)+beta(Entrance Score) + e

Where X= The Independent Variables Y= The Dependent Variable

Expected Outcomes

The study will demonstrate the importance of designing and delivering introductory accounting subjects play a key role in forming students attitude towards accounting (Cory, 1992; Saudagaran, 1996; Lucas, 2000, 2001) this study will further demonstrates the importance of designing and delivering introductory accounting subjects in a way that minimizes students negative perception of the discipline.
