SHORT COURSE: GUITAR FOR BEGINNER

Syllabus

Lesson 1 - get to know about guitar

1. Overview about guitar : Learn about the anatomy of the guitar. For example head , neck , body , fretboard & bridge. Differentiate between classical , acoustic & electric guitar. 2. Open string E , A , D , G , B , E : Learn about the string name for standard tuning guitar. String are played without a left-hand fretting a note on the guitar. 3. Tuning guitar Learn the two method of tuning guitar. First is using a tuner and second is using the 5th fret method. 4. Left hand and right hand technique Learn how to put the finger correctly on the finger board. Each finger represent number. For example index finger is the 1st finger, middle finger is the 2nd finger, ring finger is the 3rd finger and little finger is the 4th finger. Introduction of how to use plectrum , finger style and hybrid style.

5. Posture and hand exercises

Learn the two method of holding the guitar and use the right
position to hold the guitar. Make a simple hand exercise before start playing guitar.

Lesson 2 note on the guitar

1. Single note on the fretboard Learn about the notation in every section on the fretboard. Use first until fourth finger to each notation on the fretboard. 2. Double note on the fretboard Stroke double note at once using the plectrum. Do a simple exercise using the double note. 3. Octave Define octave and study in octaves. 4. Chromatic scale & picking technique (down , up & down-up) Play the every note on the fretboard within a group of sound, at the time apply the down , up and down-up picking.

Lesson 3 open chord & fingerwork

1. Basic Major chords Play and practice the combination of basic major chord. Learn how to place left-hand on the fretboard. Define the mood of the major chords. 2. Basic Minor chords Play and practice the combination of basic minor chord. Learn how to place left-hand on the fretboard. Define the mood of the minor chords. 3. Basic seventh chords Play and practice the combination of basic seventh chords. Learn how to place left-hand on the fretboard. Define the mood of the seventh chords. 4. Principal chords Play and practice the combination of major, minor and seventh chords together. Learn about the grouping of principal chords.

Lesson 4 Stroke and rhythm pattern

1. Basic down & up Stroke Do the exercise down and up stroke using the plectrum . The left-hand fingers are place on the fretboard and the righthand fingers are stroke the guitar strings. 2. Strumming exercise Define the strumming Do the simple exercise and stroking the strings up or down with the right hand to sound out chords.

Lesson 5 Play the Song

1. Learn about the structure of the song. Listen a few song to identify the structure of the song. Understanding the term of song writing. For example Intro, verse , chorus & coda. 2. Play five song with using the basic chords The students have to play the easy song by using the principal chords that they have learnt. The five song will selected according to the majority of the student.
