Its KING!!!!!
The two year double dominance of Teresa House was ended in what many have described as simply the best Sports Day Stretford High has ever had. After 6 weeks of continuous rain, the sun broke the clouds to allow staff and students the chance to embrace the School Games 2012a very special one given its our Olympic year. Quite possibly this was the best ever due to London 2012? Enthusiasm for Athletics has never been higher. Participation was massive and students created 48 new school records. It was a day to be proud of and stands athletics and indeed school sport in tremendous stead for the use of the new facilities in September. King won the School Games Commonwealth Cup on the day by 20 points, from Redgrave who also had an outstanding day. Well done everyone! Inspirational!

A quick word with Lord Coe; London 2012 Organiser;

London 2012Let the Games begin and have a great summer holiday!!!!!!

My Olympic Dreams.. We speak to staff to ask their thoughts on London 2012. This week, Sports GuruMr Fretwell! Guru
What is your interest in Sport?? Its not an interest, its an obsession! I love Rugby League and both play and referee. I support Castleford Tigers. I get ripped for supporting lots of clubs but I like lots of sports! My teams are Castleford, Blackpool FC (dads from Blackpool), and Yorkshire Cricket. However I will watch two snails wrestling if its on Sky Sports! What are you most looking forward to about London 2012? The athletics of course, but its a chance to get into sports you don't often watch. The country will be gripped by Archery and Fencing. Thats brilliant! The opening and closing ceremonies will be a total wow! Its a wonderful opportunity for sports other than football, rugby and cricket to be in the spotlight. What is your favourite Olympic memory? Easily Linford Christie winning the 100m Gold in 1992. I watched it at home with mum and we were jumping up and down in the living room! I was 16!

Whats on? Your Guide to Extra Curricular Sport!

Stretfords biggest EVER Extra Curricular Program starts in September! Check the website for details. During the Summer, visit your local Trafford Leisure Trust Centre to find out details of Sport in your area. There is loads to do!

Say what??? Our monthly look at sport stars and the languages they speak
Olympic ambassador David Beckham is also a Spanish speaker! He admits he found it very hard and his Spanish isn't brilliant but that it was so important to learn it and be the best he could. Beckham left Manchester United for Real Madrid in 2003 and now uses his Spanish to communicate with the Hispanic community who are big supporters of his current club, Los Angeles Galaxy in the US Major League Soccer Reds Alert!!! www.reds.co.uk; The Reds have been on fire lately, & look good for the play offs! Go Salford!

Let London 2012 inspire you to do more sport!

Yr 7 taste ancient Greece!

Year 7 students completed a scheme of work in Internationalism recently, looking at the Ancient Greek Olympics. MFL and PE teamed up to deliver the project. Students aimed to impress Zeus in the hipolitodramus, diuathlon, and stadion events, competing for four teams named after ancient gods. Pictured here are Bilal Elfitouri and Nelson Bowes in the wrestling event!!

SSMs Short Shorts!!!

PE has been graded at Silver level by the National School Games Initiative. The award recognises PE lessons and extra curricular and is extraordinary given the restrictions on PE due to the building work. Lets aim for Gold in then new school year! Record numbers have attended Rugby League club since the opening of the 4g pitch! Over 40 students have come to the club, on Thursdays. Great news and it will be backed up with the Salford Reds partnership who are aiming to launch a club from Jan 2013right here at School! A special mention goes to the staff for Sports Day! The house teams were amazing, but so too were the staff who ran the throwing events, finish line and collated the results that were oh so important. The PE department has a special request; Can students make a point of thanking those non PE staff who gave so much to the day. Just a thank you is so important and shows how much you appreciate it. Its really not that difficult to make someones day!
